84 Firebird..2.8L V6..need internal help please

i know what ya'll are gonna say..get a short block...but as things are...i just wanna see what i can do...i pulled the engine in my 84 bird out and apart today...i find that the bearings have been done recently..and one cylinder has spun a bearing..and was driven by a long time by the previous owner..afterthe bearing was spun and worn the crank out badly...and and possibly the inner side of the rod bearing cavity...its has some extreme play to it...with the new bearings init..still have 1/16 inch play./..is there any way to fix that? (i plan on a new engine..but still wanna play with this one..hehe)

Yes, spend the correct effort and get a 3.4 long block and put that in your car.
Then enjoy driving your car.
Your 2.8 is now a nice paperweight.

I know its not what you want to hear, but you're beating a dead horse, as they say.

Any time there is any amount of scoring or wear in the surface of the crank, it won't hold a bearing.

You will spend all this time installing new bearings, getting it back in the car and it will still knock, have low oil pressure, and not last.

I can respect the fact that you want to play with this one, but if I was going to do anything to the engine you already have, I would go out and by a crank kit.

A complete short block is an even better idea, you never know how much metal was passed through all the other components of the rest of the engine.

Just my 2 cents.

Your choices are a new shortblock, or crank kit. That crank is a is trash.

Crank's for the 82-mid 85 2.8 are sold thru places like http://www.northernautoparts.com and http://www.jcwhitney.com - they cost a couple hundred. For that cost you can go to a junkyard and get a ...

A junkyard probably wouldn't let you buy just a crankshaft.
