probably 3.2. maybe 3.3 but probably not. safely that is. you probably could go to 3.4(contrary to popular belief) but it would be extremely dangerous as the walls would be VERY thin .
with a 3.4 block you can go to about 3.5 , that's it. ugg,i dunno, i'm tired.zzzzzzzz

I don't think you could bore a 3.1 out too much. I think the 3.1 liter 60-degree V6 was in fact a "bored-out" 2.8 liter.
Increasing the stroke could also increase displacement. In either case, I would guess that the max you could safely go would be maybe 3.4 liters.
Wasn't the 3.4 liter V6 in the '93+ F-bodies a "stroked" 3.1 liter?
Anybody else???

A 3.1L is a stroked 2.8L.
A 3.4L is a bored 3.1L.
3.1 stroker kits were/are available for 2.8s, search the board for the URL if you are interested.

I've seen some guy selling bored & stroked 3.4s on ebay.
Go to the wrecking yard and go get one.
For prices I've been told ($400 - my $800 engine) why waste the effort for this magic item you are trying to create.
Just go get it already done, slam it and & go.
You CANNOT recreate the 3.4 for the low cost of the running used engine from the yard.
Shop for parts costs
Shop for machinst cost
Then go shop the yards.
You'll find out which option wins, hands down!
My machinist would not have charged me hardly a penny except for the parts.
I didn't want to waste his time or mine.
I'd rather have spent the correct & right effort to get my Firebird back on the road, economical & efficently.
For $800 & the gaskets, my own cheap free labor effort (and I sold the left over parts for $105)..
do this math.
Don't waste your time on boring & stroking this little engine.

I was just curious as to what had to be done to the 2.8 to create a 3.4. While I was scoping the Scoggins-Dickey Parts Center site I saw a GMPP 3.4HT crate motor, complete, minus intake and ignition, for a a little over $1700. It's listed as an S-10/S-15 swap but I don't see why it wouldn't fit in an F-body.
