All u guys w/ MPFI please help
LOL, how do you change your thermostat? Don't gimme any smart @$$ answers like "unbolt, rebolt". I mean, how exactly are you getting to the drivers side bolt? If I take off the TOP of my MPFI will that work, and if i do, Number 1, will I furk anything up, Number 2, will I need any gaskets to put it back on (the top of the MPFI), and Number 3, all I have to do is unscrew those 4 (or 6) bolts from the top and take off if I do it, right? I've never really worked with anything except Throttle Body before, so bear with me please.

Ok the 2nd bolt is a bitch to get at i did this a while ago like 2 years ago lol but i used a sghort socket and 1 or 2 swiveles... but u can get to it with out takeing off the upper intake. Inside there is a rubber oring that goes around the edge of the thermstat GET A NEW ONE. my stupid *** used a old one and guess what i got to do again pull the thing off... but it can be done and is simple. If you need help just im me online
I did this.
I used simple collection of sockets wrenches to get to it. IT CAN BE DONE!
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VARIETY of tools, yes, it WILL BE DIFFICULT
Cut yourself a break!
Your problem is why Sears Tool Department exists.
YOU NEED MORE POWER!
Look at this as a great excuse to buy a new tool.
OH, in my 1985 situation, I DO NOT have a rubber gasket, set up.
WHEN I DID the 2.8->3.4 swap boogie, I noticed the thermostat set up on that 1995 engine HAD THE RUBBER SETUP. I wanted to swap this onto the creation I made. It wouldn't work! All you need to do is get the proper gasket and proper size thermostat. I STRONGLY suggest, you take old thermo out & then match up for your new thermo. Get a fel pro gasket. Put on RED RTV. CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. Worm it back in. You can do this. I consider myself an "idiot" mechanic. If I can, so can you!

LOL overclck the easiest way to get the "hidden" bolt is lossen the throttle body..then you can move it around and it is simple after that. And go to your local dealer and buy a 12 buck extra housing cause anything more than 2 pounds torque will snap the housing...
I bent a wrench so it would fit in there. Just like for the distributor hold down thingy.

Dude, just gank the upper plenum, you've got nothing to lose, just don't drop anyhting down there. The gaskets are like plastic, so they don't break and are reusable, and just put a clean towel over the exposed holes, and you'll be fine.

I remember it wasn't too hard on my '87. I did this 3 years ago but what I think I did was have someone "heavy" (read: lard-*** ) step on a wrench so it was bent just enough to fit in there.
Try doing it on a TPI. You'll want to throw something heavy at the motor
Good luck!
