Drove the TTA last night and Holy $h!t........

I finally got it running good enough, after resetting the IAC and idel set screw, to actually take it out on the road. SO I bolted one headlight on and took it down my road into the other subdevision so it would warm up. Well Temp on the engine ca,e up to about 200*F and I pulled back onto my road, which has a fairly long straight stretch.

Since this was the first time actually getting on the Turbo 3.8 I had no clue what to expect. So I stop and Power brake it to about 2000 RPMS, showing no boost, and the Tires started to spin free from the 1LE rear disc and so the I launch it by just slamming the Throttle down, tire spin bad all the way thhrough 1st, slams into second and brakes the real loose and the grabs I whatch as the boost finally build and felt the acceleration come on hard as the boost built up. At about 4000rpms I had to let off, rtunning out of road.

Man that car felt stronger than the LT4 Corvette I drove in '96. I was impressed with the acceleration BIG Time. I am so Happy I got this car. By the way this car has not even had all the tuning done to it you can do and is still running on old gas. Its just ****ing unbelievable.
I got a lap top this weekend and plan on getting the scanning software to tune it and putting some fuel injector cleaner in it with a tank full of good gas next weekend. Then I plan to run it hard again.

The said part is after all that money I spent on the 86 T/A, putting the 355 in it and everything, this car will kick the **** out of it BONE Stock.
The Feeling of the boost coming in is just something I have never felt before, completely diferent from any Naturally Aspirated engine I have ever driven. NOw all I have to do is learn how to Launch under boost and keep traction and it will be even faster.

MY GOD DO I WISH I HAD ONE!!!

But before you start working the engine hard, I would make sure you have done a complete tuneup, but im sure you already have done that! Keep posting on your car.

Kyle you do know when you run a turbo hard you have to let it sit for about 5 mins before you can turn it off. You have to let the oil cool or something. Best thing to do is get a turbo timer and when you cut the car off you can take the key out, lock the doors, and go on your way and about 5 mins later the car automatically shuts off. Another point when you go hunting for game fill up with 93 gas and get oct booster. I heard the NOS booster is sucky. I don't know a good brand but if you can use Chevron (sp maybe) because its some good gas. But when you power braked the boost SHOULD have build up. But anyways sweet ride!

Go ahead and throw a map to your house too. Monkie and I will have to make a cross-country trip. Don't worry, you'll have a nice 3.1 Bird in your yard when we leave.

Wait till you get used to it. It is great! When I race it, I can get up to 2350 rpm's before any boost with the stock setup. Then it would push thru the lights. With the 9-inch convertor, I tach up to 3000. Monkie is right about the oil problem, it will stay in the turbo and cook, so don't shut it off right away.

Keep us posted.

I have a place to buy 104 octane gas about 5 miles from my house so I won't have to worry about that.
As far as letting the car run for a time after running it, none of the TTA guys or Grand national guys said anythign about that, I think that is why you are suposed to run Synthetic in it for the properties of the oil and an Oil cooler. Though the turbo on my car doesn't free spin to long so its not a real concern, also how long do you think I am going to keep that stock turbo. THough I never though about hot oil setting in it after the car shuts off.
As for the boost not building up, the damn thing started to spin the tires to soon, I think that has something to do with still having the original tires on it, even though they are Z rated I am sure they have hardened up over the years. I plan on getting Nittos and a spare set of rims for when I go "Hunting". It not like I can disquise this thing anyways with that nice whinning sound of the Turbo.

My palns are to get it into the 11.9-12.1 range in the next 2 years. So I migh have to get some wrinkle wall drag slick for the track to be able to leave with enough boost and a good enough 60' time to reach my goals, so yea it might look like that.

Pics will be when I actually get the car done. Right now its just the interior and the rear and side GFX that are done and I have done the full tune up and spring cleaning to the engine. Its driveable but the police frown on a car without Tags, headlights, and direction signals on the front end.
I will put a post up every Sunday or Monday after I get a chance to work on the car on the weekends.
