i just got a 92 firebird 3.1L v6 auto and the OD says 183,336 (4) or so, but it drives like an engine with maybe 50,000. its got a good amount of pep, and after i put new tires all the way around on it, i gave it about half throttle and it just spun for like 3 seconds before i stoped on gas because i was so amazed at this old engine! the tire was a little low, but not too bad. what should i be doing to this engine or ask the mechanic to check to make sure its running as good as it can? thankz for all ur help, i get my paycheck 2marrow but its only for like 2 weeks or minimum wage :\

Just drive it til it dies. I want mine to die but nooo it wont i redlineit wont di i get my temp past the 260 point wont die i jsut want to rebuld it but im also the kinda person if it ait broke dont fix it

 

FASTRS, here's what you do: mill your heads and deck your block and get some custom pistons and create a diesel-like 22:1 compression ratio. THEN, install some good ol' N20 and spray it at 1000 RPM. KABLOOEY!!!! don't forget to lean out the engine a lil'.

no one has any ideas on what to do to help the engine out?! EEK! im screwed then. i mean it runs perfect, infact thats why me and my dad think it has a new engine/tranny, but i just wnana be safe. should i get new plugs/wires? what

 

Why don't you just put gas in it and enjoy the spring season?
Is that difficult to do?
You've searched long for a good car, now you have one, and all you wanna do it take it apart because it runs too good?
Put gas in it!

ok, good call! I was just thinking that with the miles i should have to replace a few things like plugs and such, but if u guys say so! and it starts right up everytime.

i think they guy supped this car up before i got it tho. its got dual 2.5 inch exhaust that sounds not REAL loud, but noticeable, whenever i go up my driveway in reverse, i scrape the muffler, up in drive i scrape the nose and with 15s there isnt that much space about the body. plus i flick my wrist and the **** starts without ANY effort! its really nice. its almost like the guy supped up the engine and beat up the interior. but not that i think about it, i think he was a mechanic because the seats are all dirt stained. i dunno, what u guys think? im just glad i finally got a ride!

Pull out seats, clean, vacuum, shampoo carpet.
Try the same trick on the seats. See what happens.
Can always have some girl with a cute butt detail the seat, too!

I hate to say it a nice tune up is the best place to start... Don't waste your money on 5 dollar plugs either and don't forget the fuel filter.. To keep things simple remove the baffles in the filter box and disconnect your Throttle Body Coolant Lines. Go to crane.com and order their 8MM Fire Wires for 6 dollars a set.. ya can't beat it...

 

ok thanks, im taking the other guys advice first, about the seats. thats what i was planning on doing. sunday is my day off so im gonna call up 2 of my g friends and were gonna rip out the seats, me and anna (the hot one) are working the **** outa the seats, and amelia is gonna take the carpet then the wires, plus, filter is done, then the new map pocket/console lid, then the gauge cover (plastic thing) and fix the zipper on the t tops bag (can that be done?!) and then my dad has my car sceduled for a paint touch up. it needs it in a few places.

Mods that came w/car - New dual exhaust, maybe lowered cause the tailpipes (angled down 1 inch) scrape on driveway and so does front end..the accual fascia gets stuck if u go less than 2 mph! maybe new wires/plugs, and deff. a POSI unless the car came with the 2 wheel tire spin rear

First of all, is your car DUAL exhaust, or just dual outlets? How many mufflers and cats? Next, that is one clean engine....I'd go w/ Accell 8.8's and an Accel Supercoil as my first thing....oh wait, I did.... . Next, dynomax catback. And to my knowledge, NO V6 came with posi, although I'm already in my flame suit ready if anyone knows otherwise. I've been known to be wrong twice in my life, once more isnt' going to hurt.
