Dammit!
Okay, the cork gasket is in, seems fine for now. The SES light never lit, so I swapped it with the known-good bulb for the seat belts. Same results. so I moved on to checking the injector grounds. Nothing, blue or green, in either part of the connector.
I guess now I need another computer.
But I can't understand how this one could have failed. The only thing I did was mis-jumper the fuel pump relay.
So, now the hunt begins.

You blew the fuse on the passenger's side... The inline fuse isn't just for the fuel pump but for the ECM constant power circuit as well. The fuse is in the fuse holder with the orange and red wires (the black and red one is for the MAF) bolted to the passenger's side frame rail.

I had no clue. I don't even recall seeing any such thing, but then again, I didn't know to look.
Thank you for the guidance, and thank you for the friendship, sharing the guidance freely. I'd send you a steak dinner if I could.
I'll investigate this first thing tomorrow.

It now has learned to idle in gear. This afternoon I'm getting temp tags, so I can drive it this evening!
Found a few bulbs that need replacing if I want to drive after dark and pass inspection, I have new wiper blades to install, then the washer isn't wetting the windshield.
Minor details.

Hopefully they stay minor, lol...had my car on the road for 2 weeks before it broke down

The brake problem isn't really solved, but I've been trying to set the ignition timing by feel. I finally got some impressive acceleration, but with it came detonation. So I pumped out all the old gas into the can I use for my lawn mower, and gave it 5 gallons of fresh premium unleaded, and a bottle of octane booster. So now I can experiment without worry.
It feels like a 305, and I'm pleased. But WOT in first gear, it seems to drop off at 27 MPH, and will not pull past 32 MPH, no matter the timing. Maybe too much air flow for the injectors, after all my porting and polishing?

There are no words, there is no variation of a smiley, to express how this thing moves! I'm ready to take on an L69 / 700R-4 / 3.42:1 third-gen. The fun still fades just before 30 mph, so I'd probably lose.

Re: Just added my first 2.8, it knocks.
huh, interesting, lol. Mine pulls good from a stop, starts pulling hard at about 10-20, all the way to 50-60, then slows down a little till about 80-90, for like 5 mph the speed increase is pretty slow, then it finds a whole bunch of power and pulls hard again, sad thing is I haven't been able to run it any faster to see just how long that fresh pull lasts, lol. Some day when I'm on an empty/near empty highway and have it running right I'll probably open those top end taps...
I'm surprised yours fades at 30, these engines love midrange, I would think yours would pull from like 10-50 before it started falling off.
Hopefully I can get my car up again soon, but I just called the shop for an update and I'm still 2-3 weeks out

There's no way you're pulling 50 in first gear, unless you swapped a 2.95:1 T5 and a 2.73:1 axle. And second should pull well past 60 with the automatic.
I'm not going WOT above 35 ( in second, of course ) until I get these brakes sorted. And there's no way this thing will do 40 in first, even with the original 2.8L, because that would be 5800 RPM @ WOT, and the stock 2.8 peaked no higher than 5100. I'd guess the stock rev limiter is likely set about 5400.
I don't have a tach, nor do I expect to invest in one for the 3.4, but 30 MPH works out as 4450 RPM @ WOT. So my peak HP should be about 33 MPH, 4850 RPM @ WOT.
But it'll do the commute while I prep the 5.3L, so it's good enough.

I didn't say anything about gears whatsoever....in general, those are the speeds my car pulls hard at, I am well aware of what gears can pull to what speeds....

Including all the WOT first gear testing for initial timing, I'm showing 16 MPG so far. My next 2 mods will be a used tachometer and a new vacuum gauge.
Now I just need to find the signal wire for the tach.

If you have the non tach cluster you have to get one that came with a tach if memory serves, also you shouldn't need to wire for it, wiring should already be there, should be plug and play, just make sure you get a v6 tach and not a v8 one, I got burned on ebay on that by a bad seller that claimed it was a v6 tach and it wasn't. I didn't bother to check the pictures that close since I assumed any idiot could tell a v6 car from a v8 car, clearly not cause even after I told him(there are ways you can tell by the tach itself) he insisted it was from a v6 car.

Thanks,
I will be getting the tach at the salvage yard, I saw no fewer than 5 of the '85-'92 V6 F-cars there a couple of days ago, surely 1 of them has a tach I can get. If the donor also has gauges rather than idiot lights, then I'll just get the whole assembly.

If you find 2, and its not too much trouble snag one for me, lol....I still haven't replaced or re-calibrated my v8 one, not many JYs around here sadly. I'd pay up to $15 for one, +$5 for shipping ofc. And now I have so much stuff going on idk I'll get too it anytime soon, would rather just buy one if its the right price.

Btw, way you can tell the difference is by redline and oil pressure. v8s have a lower redline, and their oil gauge is 30-60, while v6s are 40-80.

$15? Maybe on half-price-day. And $5 shipping? That's the USPS' smallest flat-rate box. It won't fit in there. But for $20 you can get a cheap tach at Harbor Freight
But if I score 2 and both work, I'll let you know.
I had to move my car last night, the off-idle throttle response is finally decent. (for a tiny 3.4L) It has taken the computer about 2 weeks to learn this ported 3.4

Well its not like I need a whole cluster, I just need a tach, I wouldn't think it would be more than $15, but then I've never really been to junkyards, but also, atm its low priority, and I am tight on cash, normally, I would be willing to pay up to $50 for it.
