I have determined that my Cat is clogged & needs to be replaced. I was quoted these prices:
Universal Fit $61 ($96cdn) some mods needed
OEM $99 ($149cdn) no mods needed
Walker Hi-Flow $97 ($145cdn) some mods needed
I would like to go with the Walker Hi-Flow but I am wondering how good these are... everyone here seems to have either Dynomax or Flowmaster. Also how hard is it to install one; will I have to take the car in?
I have searched this site & haven't had much luck finding any info
thanks, Don

Don (thanks again for the book website!), I bought my hi-flow cat from Summit for $67 US. It was made by Products for Power... I don't have the part # handy, but the Summit guy got it to me quick. Here's the important stuff- the cat convertor was a direct bolt-in! It had the same inside-diameter for my stock y-pipe, and it had the same flange for my I-pipe. It even re-used the stock hanger at the back of the cat!
If you can dig that up thru Summit, you can get a bolt-on deal. If I remember, when I get home, I'll dig up the part # for you for tomorrow.

Damn, did a look at Summit's web site, and PFP is no longer listed on their manufacturer search. But, I did get a find I think you'll like!
Catco! Part #CTO-4115. I did a "Manufacturer Search", and on the top of the search screen, I told it department = "Exhaust", section = "catalytic convertors", manufacturer = "catco". A list popped up. I chose our setup, which is a 2.5" in, and 2.5" flanged ball outlet. A box popped up- and the cat looks like mine. I clicked on applications, and there it was, standing out at me- 82-92 Camaro 2.8/3.1 ! If the pic & and description (flanged ball out) is right, this is the bolt-in cat you need.
Oh- price was $83 US... but no mods needed!

I wenrt with the walker cat, for the price it was the best buy... with the canadian $ so low, I didn't want to mail order from the US. It took me about 1.5hrs or so for installation, most of that time was removing the old cat... It didn't want to come away from the Y-pipe. I only had to cut off 2 inches off pipe to make the new cat fit (it was bigger) & then it bolted right up, I was even able to use the hanger.
I've noticed a bit more "pep" now that the engine is breathing right. No all I have to do is get rid of the code 34 (all signs point to a new MAF needed, thanks Tom for the diagnostic method you posted awhile ago)

Wiggle the wires.
How is your timing?
If it's shot, you engine may ping alot!
MAF affect timing.
I still have my Performance for Power cc, I got my from Don's Hot Rod Shop in Tuscon. 800-888-8892. About $60, 10 years ago. Mine on my S-10 Blazer still passes emissions with it.

I've been talking to a few people & reading up on it a little. Turns out that a vaccuum leak can cause it to throw MAF error codes.... It makes sense tough, I started having MAF problems ever since I changed the Valve Cover Gaskets (had to pull apart the intake/plenum/TB) so maybe I'll pull it all apart & re-do the gaskets; maybe actualy use gaskets instead of Blue RTV
