2.8 MultiPort Fuel Injected V6
I have a 1989 Chevy Celebrity with the 2.8 MPFI and it wont run unless you keep your foot on the gas. My solution for a possible fix is to set the idle a little higher so that it wont stall out. My question is, where is the idle screw? It looks like it is right next to the throttle/TV cable, but there is a plastic covering over it. If this is the idle screw, then what do I do to set it... if it is not, could u please direct me to the right place?
Thanks

Actually start with a realy good tune up and adjust the timing. See what happens.
IT just may cooperate!
IF not, you may really need a timing chain, to get it to keep better timing.
How many miles?
IF over 100K, replace chain, that will make a big difference.
It really will!

How long do the timeing chains last for? mine has180,000 miles on it and what happens we they snap
technically, you are supposed to replace your chain at like 50,000. (yes, CHAIN). but they routinely last 150,000 or more, but they start to stretch. FASTRS, i recommend you replace yours soon. if it breaks, you're stranded.
89IROCZ, does it die as soon as you start it??? check your air inlet hoses. i've seen several cars that would die immediately just because a intake hose clamp was loose. possibly an Idle Speed Control valve malfunction but that should produce a code, or it could be dirty/clogged.

Ooh! Ooh! (raises hand) I vote for a clogged IAC passageway!! Click on search in the upper right of this screen, and search for IAC ... one message of mine tells how to clean that out. That lets air get into the engine when your foot's off the gas, and if it clogs up with carbon, no air gets in...

Tom,
I took the hose that runs from the air filter to the throttle body off.... no signs of clogging in there whatsoever. I am not sure if that was what you were reffering to when you said that IAC passageway or not. I am going to try getting a new air filter becuase lack of air definetly seems like a possibility.
The funny thing is, after I took the hose off and put it all back together, I started the car and it ran and idled fine... until I touched the gas pedal. I hit the gas and it revved up as it should and came down and stalled. I have no clue what the problem is. As always, any information is greatly appreciated and considered - Thank you all... hopefully I will work this out, so I dont have to drive with one foot on the gas and one on the brake for the rest of my life.

Er, no, that's not what I was talking about. I guess you didn't do the search I asked you to do? (sigh) I don't understand why, no flames intended, of course! But, fine, I'll do the search for you; here it is:

I'll re-state what was discovered in that message; some Idle Air Control motors were attached to the throttle body with 4 torx screws. Others were just screwed into the TB like a big spark plug. The IAC should not be disassembled once it's removed from the TB. The IAC passageway is internal to the throttle body, it's not a hose. It starts at the IAC pintle and runs "forward" to the front of the throttle body.
And since I missed this question from Karl- The IAC is a motor; it's a stepper motor. A stepper motor doesn't spin like a normal motor, it spins by increments. The IAC pintle is spinning outward/inward, it's not directly extending/retracting. This is how the computer controls idle air flow, by slowly incrementing the IAC motor.

Had a low idle prob on my 85 camaro.the idleset screw was blocked from the rear but you can grab it from the front where it sticks out, rotate it out a little, and get a boost in idle. Probably doesn't fix the real problem but you can drive it.
