Anyone cut their hood for a Fresh Air set up?

Walking to the grocery store, yesterday, I saw a Sunbird GT, Turbo.
Saw the hood louvers, too.
Yep, like the 1989 Trans Ams, but, different.
The direction of the louvers is toward the windshield, not like the Firebirds, which is toward the front.
I'm asking if anyone every cut their hood, to put in a scoop or anything like that.
I'm hoping to go for smog sticker, today, then I can play!
I still want to use the Camaro air cleaner set up I got.
Flip it, upside down, catch air from the hood scoops (like this Sunbird GT Tubo set up), like my old 1968 Firebird 400 did.
Great thing about this Camaro plastic air cleaner thing, it's easy to cut!!

I hear ya.
But, I do like the idea of incorporating something "special" for the hood.
Not giving up on ANY suggestions.
After I do my smog test, the options are open!
Thanks tho!

The pics is easy.
The set up is not secured yet.
Would love to use this Camaro Air Cleaner thing, flip it up (facing hood underside), insert K & N Filters.
Just trying to think of other options.
The underside hose set up, seems clunky, fragile, to long for what may be realy effective.

I know, be done with it, but......

It sounds like you have a V-8.
I'm going for a front air inlet set up.
Cutting a hole/attaching scoop like your design, is a great thing, but, for only for carb'd set ups.
THANKS, tho!
I recentyly score ONE side of the 1989 Trans Am inlet, for experimenting. Once I figure out how to use the camaro dual air inlet air cleaner on my Firebird (hood spacing, or lack of), I'll be pretty well set.

heres one...how about cutting some of the polyurathane bumper cover and running the intake there?... OK heres the mental pic...

1. the dual snorkle intake still facing down.
2. going to a home improvement place and buying some flat plastic/metal flasshing.
3. running the plastic/flashing to the holes cut into the front cover and making it into a RAM/CAI combo?... You could revit it to the cover and the bottom of the airbox to seal it as well????

I dunno just an idea...

That is NOT TO FAR OFF of the idea I had, while walking back to my car, other day.
I found some housing side wiring for laying on "paint". It looks like some aftermarket grille insert stuff.
Very similar, loose the front bumperettes, insert the "wire" into that bumperette space, insert the fresh air stuff behind it. Paint all black.

i dunno if this has occured to anyone...but i just did this:

remove fog lights on both sides..take the intake piping down on the battery box when u cut a hole... take it down some then do a y-fitting, then take 2 K&N's behind each foglight and what do u have? ramair/cold air...This way u dont have to cut the **** outta ur car.. (i dont have mine done like this yet..

Graeme,
Unfortunatly, I do not have the fog light front end, that may have been standard on your year.
Mine is the black band bumperettes.
That's not a bad thought, tho.
After I start/finish doing the factory disc brake swap on my Wife's 1968 Camaro, and removing the heads on my S-10 Blazer, this fresh air idea comes next.

Last night, a Turbo Trans Am pulled into Bob's Big Boy. So I got to examine how the fog light idea was done on that year. That would be a great spot for air pick up! This TTA was just like out of an old ad. It was proper & right.

Hey Kyle, How do those things get fresh air?

Along with a LS1 All-Aluminum engined 1997 Camaro, 6 speed, T-top, NOS system, headers, 3" piping, no cat, 350 HP flywheel & 305 at the rear wheels. 11 sec, car. Street legal, with return of the cat convertor, to the piping. Rear exhuast cut out too.
I was a little in awe.
Last aluminum engine I recall is back in the 1960-70's Cam-Am racing days. Days of dinosaurs racing on the earth.

I mean, from Old Corvettes & Camaros & Pontiacs...to that engine. I sat in it, too. So different, but, the best heel & toe, I ever used.

For those that gymkahana & road course race, you would understand.

AND this Camaro had a flat hood. This guy showed me the little scoop and litle air inlet for the fresh air. That design seems to be effective. Air inlet was about 1/2" by 12" or more at the air filter.

Ked, u thought of a ramair 2 hood? All u need to do is cut the scoops out to make them functional. Get a ram air box from a 4thgen, connect it and ur set. They even sell functional ones.
