sticking throttle
sticking throttle
ive done some searching here and havnt found exactly what i need. anyways to the topic at hang.
1987 2.8 camaro. cleaned the throttle body because it seemed like the idle was to high, didnt change the idle but still needed to be cleaned. then yesterday i was testing a new exhaust and floored the car, it would only idle down so far(scary) stoped it. and found the throttle cable was stuck.
as long as you dont push down on the pedal hard it just sticks at about 1200 rpm. how can i oil that cable so it doesnt catch? any other ideas? thanks for the help

Re: sticking throttle
Check to make sure the throttle plate isn't sticking in the throttle body before you do anything else. I know I'd had the wrong TB gasket installed and it would catch the throttle lever occasionally before I tore that corner of the gasket off before replacing the gasket with the right one (NEVER trust a Ford guy to work on a GM!).
If that doesn't work, get a new throttle cable. They're cheap enough. And check that nothing is catching the pedal as well (a la Toyotas).

Re: sticking throttle
Even if they dont have the external 1s the internal 1s do wear out if you trace the cable from the pedal to the tb sliding your fingers along it make sure theres no kinks or hard turns or obstructtions the the easy fix is putting a spring on it Could also have a bad tp sensor also try changing that it could fix it also when it so calls sticks can you lift up the pedal with your foot and idle drops or have maybe someone see if they can rotate it back and if does spring it if not replace tps
