simple project turned into nightmare!
i have an 87 firebird with the 2.8 v6 and my battery tray is completely rotted out on the drivers side. and i dont want my battery falling thru while going down the road. and i dont have the money to fix my welder and weld some tin in so a couple weeks ago i put the battery on the passenger side were the charcoal canister and intake were cuz that side aint rusted. then i put the air filter and charcoal canister on the drivers side. simple enough but then i tried extending the wires to the mass air, charcoal canister and that other sensor on the airfilter box (whats that one called?) first attempt i just twisted some wires together but that obviously didn't work so i sotered the wires together and still mass air was not working. a few moths back replaced the cars wiring harness and i still had the old one in the garage at my dads so while i was there stealing parts off my truck i grabbed the wires for the mass air off the old harness and spent 3 hours this morning sottering them in so i had the proper sized wire. and then started the car she runs now and idles good but "hiccups" when i give her gas and sounds like she wants to stall i dont think its the mass air now cuz the check engine light is off. could it be the other sensor on the airfilter or the charcoal canister? and theres a vent tube coming from the passenger valve cover that went in the stock intake tube. i have a huge intake tube i stole off my truck on it now so i dont have that hooked up. will that affect anything? any help is greatly appreciated i need to keep this 2.8 going till i can find a tranny to get the 350 in.

Yes, without the PCV hookup on the passenger's side valve cover being connected, you have an air leak. The ECM doesn't like that, and that's why you're getting the hiccups. And the other sensor in the air filter can is the intake air temp sensor, also slightly important...
Oh, and there are no direct fit battery trays available for the driver's side... I've been looking for one for months (and I just cut the last of my stock POS out last month).

i might get some 3 inch dryer vent hose and replace that if its the problem but i have no clue how i am gonna attach the pcv thing to it? short of cutting a hole and duct taping it in? lol this only has to work a couple months hopefully. this is just a quick fix to keep the tired old 2.8 running and i still got to get more vac line and route the charcoal canisters hoses out of the way. they look like crap stretched over everything. what does the solenoid thing that is on top of the charcoal canister do? and what happens if it aint wired rite i am gonna get the wires for them off the old harness and redo them like i did the mass air next time i go to the old mans next weekend. and tomarow i will see if i can attach the pcv thing somehow. what does that thing do?

Go to a hardware store and get a 3" PVC elbow (street elbow, I think, with only one flared side to fit a pipe). Then use your stock bellows and attach the PCV pipe to it. PCV is kind of important, as is the vent valve for the gas tank. It keeps pressure from building within the engine until gaskets blow out
.
You do NOT need the solenoid on the canister, but you DO need it to appear to be working to pass inspection. Just hook up the ported vacuum source from the EGR to the round valve opposite the solenoid as you would the other vapor valve, and the canister will only purge when the throttle is opened.
