I was offered one of these, for my swap mission.
Nope, it's an East West engine and the heads are way to wide.
Oh, then there's the one little detail.
Wiring for the computer.

Hmmm......I wonder if the new 3100 heads will fit on a 3.4L?

Anyway, I managed to lode in an HO454 engine in my '88 with no mods to the bay at all, so why can't a 3.4L DOHC fit? Don't forget, a 60dgree block is angled to be futher away from the shock towers. The 60 deg design was intended to be shoe-horned in to the FWD bays because of space linitations.

The heads are to wide to fit within the shock towers.
It's to tall for the engine bay.
IF ya go to a Chiltons book, you'll find an exploded diagram of it.
And see.
Like I said, I was offered one and it wasn't worth the sure thing effort of the 3.4 swap.
I WAS BUMMED TOO
I mean, I would have enjoyed this little item under my hood!!!
BUT.
Last OHC engine I really wanted was the 427 FORD SOHC Cammer engine.
Last OHC engine I did have was my 1975 VEGA & I loved that car!
I used to do 6500 RPM bursts all the time!
Don't laugh, but that car was so fast & fun.
Really REALLY wish I still had it. Or a Cosworth Vega.
PISSED cause a friend just crushed one. I am really looking for a Vega Wagon, tho.

What is the HP rating of the 3.4L V6 anyway, I've see 160 and 175 which is correct, what would be the fastest way to bump this up to 200 cam and chip??????

I would imagine that a 3.4L engine with:

bored 1mm over
a retail perfomance cam
stock heads
1.52 rockers
gasket matched intakes
a perfomance chip (off the shelf)
underdrive pullies
cold air setup
catback with hiflo convertor

would be about 200 to 210hp

Check your local auto parts dealer for a short block price - most of there "remans" come this way - yank the cam for something better and your in business. Plus a warranty.

i know that the 3.1L is EXTREMEMLY responsive to a gastket match alone - god the engine comes to life with a light port and polish and gasket match. Its really choked in those 3 intake pieces. Problem is that ya really have to pay attention to what you are doing or risk killing the base (3rd) piece. Most manufactures will choke the engine for the same reasons that they "choke" the z28. Why would a corvette buyer pay 50K to get a car that could be had for 27K - with the same damn engine. Same is true for the V6 runners. The 3.8 firebirds will run with 5.0L mustangs for under a grand. The scary thing about the 3.8L engines is with a turbo or blower and some proper mojo they will run 11's all day long and the LAST thing GM wants is someone not to buy the V8 if a V6 can run the same cheaper. I have often thought about getting a 3.8L and put a blower on it. Same thing (kit wise) as a V8. Theres a guy that did it on another board antivenom or something, dunno what or how far he came tho.

ok the DUAL OVER HEAD CAM will not fit. But the 3100, 3.4, 3400 3.1(obviously) will.

I don't know, I'm still not convinsed that a DOHC 3.4L will not fit into a Camaro bay because of the shock towers. Height is one thing but width? A 3.4L DOHC wider than a 454 90degree? Did anybody take measurments to confirm this or are you guessing by just looking at the motor? Hmm....I'll have investigate this.....

It's how it sits in the engine bay and the headers to make it exhaust that ruins the fun.
Unless ya wanna custom pay the piper, stick to the 3.4 engine for the sure thing!
I'm only trying to save ya effort & fun (of the completed project)!
Not ruin the fun of the idea.
ANYTHING FITS WITH TIME & MONEY
But, will it pass smog & start every day?
