Re: Accessory help!!

I don't think any of the 2.8s had idlers, mine didn't, and assuming yours has the v-belt setup it shouldn't either, I know the 3.1s were serps and they would have one, but a 2.8 should not AFAIK. If it does have one there would really be only 1 place it would be able to go, and it would probably go on the bottom near the crank pulley, as the alternator and AC if equipped would be at the top.

Re: Accessory help!!

the car is an 88 and it has a serp belt. i believe the pulley goes underneath the tensioner pulley next to crank pulley. the car has AC. just trying to remember how that sucker went on. thats the last thing to put on then it can be fired up. i feel soo retarded for not taking pictures. would really really really appreciate it if someone knew more or could take just a couple pics. ive looked at diagrams, scamatics from dealerships but nothing really works. would really really help if someone could. thank you.

Re: Accessory help!!

Is it the tensioner location or belt routing you are hung up on? There's kind of only one way to place the former or route the latter, back side of the belt would run across the tensioner, I would post a pic but I'm away from home and my car. Try google images, can probably find one there.

Re: Accessory help!!

its the idler pulley location and how it mounts. if i can just figure that out i have the orginal belt routing diagrahm still on the radiator support. im soo sure it has an idler pulley.... i can swear up and down i took it off and the routing diagram shows it too. im just soo positive it does. my mechanic says soo as well but he cant seem to figure it out either.

Re: Accessory help!!

if it is serp belt it should have a tensioner unless it has adjustable brackets for some of the accessories.

Re: Accessory help!!

There's a support bar that goes from the back of the idler to the front bottom exhaust manifold bolt. you loosely align the support in place the the Y shaped bracket goes attached to the front of tensioner pulley/alternator bracket and it should line right up with the bolts that it goes to then you just tighten everything down. Remember there's a bolt in the front of the idler pulley that has to be removed in order to go on otherwise it won't fit once it's over the bolts you can put it back on.

Re: Accessory help!!

soo you are saying theres a bracket that attaches to the alt/tensioner bracket and the support goes to it and the bolt attaches the pulley, bracket, and bar together?
