How to tune-up a 3.1???

I think maybe a tune-up would do wonders for my 91 3.1. Of course, I cannot justify spending the money to take it to a shop that will just use crappy parts anyways. Is this something I can do myself? How hard is it to change plugs and wires? Also what type and where should I get them? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Really it is an easy job.. Take your time and you can do it in an hour. Go to Discount and buy the best cap and rotor you can. Then buy stock plugs, you don't need anything fancy. Then get a fuel filter to. That will be hte hardest thing. Also get new air filters, PVC valve and Wires... This is tricky cause I only recommend Accel or MSD or Jacobs.... Honestly you can do it and the sense of accomplishment will be great.. Get a hayes or chiltons manual and go from there. I am in Orlando how far are ya from there... If your close I can show ya the ropes if needed...

Thanks Brian... Lutz is right by Tampa...anyways..I have a shop manual that I somehow didn't even think of checking I guess it should be easy then...I wasn't sure if you could easily get to the plugs without some dissassembly. How about those Delco Rapid FIre plugs..I heard they were pretty good. Thanks

SB, here's the major tuneup list for your engine. It covers it all, and you're right; a garage will over charge, use cheap stuff, AND their version of a tuneup is a "minor" one! They leave a ton of things out! Here's your list, click here: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000545.html

[edit] Oh yah- I'd say to get it all from Summit Racing; but it's up to you. If you get Summit's catalog, you won't see wire sets (or exhausts or etc) advertised for your 3.1 f-body- you need to CALL them and ASK for part #'s & prices. Either that, or ask us for the part #'s- Summit will have 'em. http://www.summitracing.com or 800-230-3030
