Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
here's whatcha do: buy a 3.4 and pull the heads.......
go to a junkyard and get a spare 2.8 intake manifold.......
now while the 3.4 is out of the car take the 3.4 heads and the newly accquired manifold to get ported and polished
while this is being done buy an aggresive cam and roller rockers.......
blend all under the hood of a V6 F-body and stir 15 strokes...hehe
i cant say what numbers you'll get outta this, but they should be very close if not more than what you wanted........

From my thinking, here's what ya get.
A GM HP report gives a 3.4 160 HP & 195 Ft LB of Torque.
NOW, that was with a carb intake.
The FI is WAY MORE EFFICENT.
So, by using the 1985 set up I did (as will yourself), you gain HP. I'd say quite close to 20 above what GM offered. I'd say I'm close to 170-180 HP. And that's an honest estimate.
ME?
I only plan on adding a NOS system.
WHY?
The NOS will cost me about $400, I've seen. And add a SOLID UP TO 125 HP!
I have NO desire to pull apart a 45K mile engine that is in perfect running shape. I'd rather keep tweeking it.
As I have.
I'm almost done with a real ram air set up. Started it over the weekend. I'm onto cutting up the hood, maybe this week. I finally figured out the proper air inlet design.
I've already tweeked ignition.
Exhaust is still what came on the car, so it is leak free and "free", it stays. It is a decent running car, as is.
My real world evaluation of what ya can do by this swap?
Open hood, swap engines, close hood.
Enjoy the ride.
BUT
Buy another tranny!!!!
I had to.
It takes ya long enough to do the swap CORRECT, and I needed my car running as soon as possible.
I feel I won in the long run.
ONLY CHANGE I WISH I MADE, was to use Comp Cam Roller Tips Rockers of 1.52 ratio.
BUT no moola for that change.
I'm sure I'll find them at a swap meet one day.
AND I do want to create a smoother transistion from the manifolds to the first "Y" section of pipe, before the CC.
That bend/junction looks real restrictive.
IF I need to get more/higher RPMS, then I'll play with something lese.
LIKE MY 1974 CORVETTE OR 1967 or 1968 CAMAROS.
Plan a perfect swap, problem solve any errors/vacuum leaks/etc, enjoy the incredible change to the car.
It DOES pull like a freight train!
I wish I had this 3.4 engine under my Blazer hood, too.

You can turbo any of these engines.. if you want to custom fab the exhaust for a few grand..
Be easier to get a 3.4l, high compression pistons, the head/intake/TB port/polish, cam, rockers, and valve job.. at 9.5:1 with above mentioned fun, you're looking at about 250 NA rwhp... 'course, it'll cost you as much as it would to do the same to an 8 and get 350 NA rwhp, but hey.. you'd be able to stomp a number of 8's with the 3.4..

'86 Camaro SC, black /w silver racing stripes
2.8l MPFI/700r4 /w special 2nd gear delete option
In search of new v8 engine & transmission, now contemplating t5 swap to get me out of this mess.
Misc Mods: Cut air box, '83 Firebird spoiler.
Performance Parts: MSD coil, Accel 8mm wires, SplitFire plugs, Gabriel hijackers.
Audio Mods: Pioneer DEH-P3000, two 12" Optimus Pro Audio subs in hand-made enclosure each powered by a 260 watt Optimus amp. Working on shaving the box for weight.
