Brain Teaser

Ok, Say you have a 90 Camaro 3.1 L V6... The Motor Cranks, but does not start. Then you spray eather so it reaches the Injectors and the motor starts but wont stay running unless you keep pumpen the gas, once you stop pumpen the gas the motor stops... What would be wrong?
We've Checked....
1. The injectors (the are Clean)
2. ECM is fine (Changed the Computer with a new one and still the same thing)
3. The Distrebuater is new
4. The spark plugs are Sparking
5. Theres Gas in the car
6. Fuel pump is clean
7. Theres 40 lbs of gas pressure

So if you have any ideas please write and help me out. Thanks alot, Michael

Does it throw any codes?

Have you checked the TPS? (Throttle Position Sensor)

Check the starter, some times if your starter on it way out it will shut off the car while it's running. It happened to me once.

Guesses:

1. Ignition timing is way off, probably over-advanced. If you've checked timing and it's at stock spec (10 advance), have you checked to make sure the balancer mark hasn't slipped?

2. Like AlexJH mentioned, the TPS could be bad. If TPS tells the computer that you're at WideOpenThrottle, the computer shuts the injectors off, because it thinks you want "clear flood mode". I don't know how you'd check the TPS on your car; the 3.1's have a nonadjustable TPS. My car (and all 85-89 2.8's) has the adjustable one.

3. Distributor's off 180 degrees, or not lined up with #1 TDC, or the firing order's incorrect.

4. Big vaccuum leak somewhere (brake booster)? I don't know how you'd check this if you can't get the engine to run... I guess you can only do a visual inspection? I've left the booster hose off before (forgotten to reconnect) and the car would barely run at idle.

5. Bad harness wires at the distributor; give 'em the scientific "wiggle the wires and try starting the car" test.

6. With "engine off, key on", did the 40PSI of fuel pressure stay holding, or did it drop?

7. Bad CoolantTemperatureSensor. I think this controls how rich/lean the car starts with.

8. Dead squirrel blocking the air filter

Did this problem happen suddenly, or was the car acting up?

I had the same problem, even though my injectors were cleaned 2 months ago the cleaning crap they used solidifies in 6 weeks. That means they dont spray any fuel out or nothing. So every time I fired the car it would start up but die within seconds. The worst case senairo is that you too have to get new injectors,I got lucky cause I work a Street&performance.I got injectors for a TPI for dirt freaking cheap.

Well, how much do you sell them for.
AND IF YA WORK THERE, why would we want to do business with a place that claims to do good work, only for project to come back and haunt ya after 6 weeks?
Just a thought!

We actually do real good work but nobody listens when we tell them to wait until your for certian that your ready.Because as i said the cleanser fluid for the injectors has a real heavy and strong lacquer mix that solodifys in 6 weeks.Because of their and my own stupidity we get screwed, cause we didnt listen.Oh well I didnt have to pay much though lucky me.BTW ive polished my 2.8 plenum and in place of the 2.8 emblem I programed and machined 85 camaro into it. Ill take a picture of it and post it tommorow.
