porting heads IS easy! I just ported a spare set of 3.1 L heads with my dremel .Best of all it only took about an hour or so per head.
heres what I did:
1.intake gasket match. Just take the gasket that goes between your intake manifold and head, lay it on the head properly then scribe a line folling the opening on the gasket. Now take your dremel and grind out to the lines youer scribed. Just blend then ground out area into the port about 1/2 of an inch and you are done.
2 smooth the intake and exhaust valve guide bosses to look like a "tear drop". Try not to nick the valve seat though. The exhaust sides are worse.
3. where the short side radius comes to the valve seat there is a hard ridge, just smooth it over.

oh I forgot to add, you can Polish the coombustion chambers to amirror shine, but I dont think there is much to gain here. If you enlarge the chambers to much you lose compression, so I didnt bother with it.
DONT polish the intake ports, leave them rough because the fuel need some turbulance to help it mix with the air.
YOU can mirror shine polish the exhaust ports.
I;ve read a couple books on this stuff, so dont think I;m trying to be a know-it-all or something like that.

That's the way I learned, looked at pics, asked a knowledgable person got some polishing ginding stones and had patience.
It is simple in execution.
BUT, as David pointed out, you need to have some guidence.
Before ya do this, keep reading, looking at pics, ask. WATCH SOMEONE DO IT, give 'em a six pack for the quick lessons.
ONE of the best tips, always work with good lighting on the subject.
Keep trying to find videos about this subject to watch, also.
Go to wrecking yards for your subjects to grind on, also. It's cheaper!
