New Ram Air completed

I decided i wanted something more simple, and as everyone saw my last ram air looked like crap.. but worked. I wanted to keep everything stock looking, except the filter. I used the old ram air filter i had before and just attached it right to the MAF, and the filter sits RIGHT in the fenderwell.. it works a lot better, and as a lot of people said before i can hear it sucking too... i also have a hole under it for air passing by the car can come up into the filter (cold air) and am going to rig some sort of possible a/c ducing to move all air coming through the fog lights right into the filter..

hey, looks good! gotta love the sucking sound...mine does it too. i know you said you wanted to keep it looking mostly stock, but heres a pic of what i did. now, my car doesn't have a maf (1990) so i don't know how it would change with your car. but it would flow even better w/o those 90* turns.

sensor on OEM canister:

1990 Firebird 3.1
------------------
- Auto Trans, TA Body Kit
- Home Made C.A.I.
- ASP Underdrive Pulleys

- 2.5" Hooker Aero-Chamber Cat-back (27121)
- 2.5" Hooker Elite Stainless Extension Tips (31503)
- GTS Blackouts (stickers removed - #GT034)
- TB Bypass

KILLS = Dodge Daytona, 2000 Toyota 4 Runner 4WD,

Wouldn't that be "Cold air induction" instead of "Ram-air" ?

BTW..wayne i use Meguiars extra with a towel and spend about 1-2 hours a week cleaning everything. I did it yesterday in fact. Then every 2-3 months i get the engine steam cleaned.

That K&N was about 65 bucks. The old one was just a stock drop in K&N... It looks nice and will be running a lot better when i get a new MAF

To add, i also made a heat shield to isolate the filter from the engine out of 1/4" plywood with the reflective side of a sun shield to help out. my throttle response has picked up A LOT just because of that.. u guys might wanna look into it.

Hey Graeme, I also did a cold air job on my t/a. The post is on the tpi board under "cold air tech article" a little further down the page. Before I did the metal pipe, I used the pvc and didn't move the smog canister. If you change these two you'll be much happier with your throttle response and the fact that its not pvc. Doesn't cost much either. It does look really good though.

Thx..im going to change it to 3.5" exhaust pipe when i have cash to do it, and see what i can do about that smog canister to move it, as it is its hitting the air filter and thats why its only that far in, not actually sitting in the fender. Thanks for the comment though! Ill take your advice and see what i can do.

No man, thank you. Back when I got my bird, I knew pretty close to nothing about my car (except that I loved it and wouldn't ever sell it...then). Thanks to you and the other norms around here at the v6 board, I got started on my old ride and got to a point where I liked pontiac thirdgens so much that I went out and got a GTA. If you'd do that pipe deal I did (and believe me its not that expensive...about 30 bucks at your local exhaust place and moving the canister is free if you have a drill and some self-tapping screws) I'd be honored to stick your tech write up alongside mine...it then being the ultimate cold air intake design for our beloved ponchos. Thanks again man.

Now that I actually look at your job, you are the perfect v6 candidate for my cold air idea. Don't you just hate that restrictive box thing? The 87 350 got it too. Mine was letting more air in than keeping it in, and was "fixed" with some duct tape for about a month. That engine sure is clean though.

I've got one q...where would I go about getting me engine steam cleaned? What type of establishment does this?

Xenodrgn,
CHECK MANY CAR washes. They offer that service, too. Atleast the one up the street from me, does.
You know you can go to the local wash your car yourself & do it. NEED TO WRAP LOTS OF STUFF, tho!!

One way I wrap to protect is to use plastic bags or clear plastic wrap (Sarahan Wrap), rubber bands, THEN a cover of Aluminum foil squished over the clear wrap.
Been very fortunate that way!
But, I have never cleaned my Firebird engine.
Never had a desire, too.
My 1974 Corvette engine, YEP!

Ked, I'd do it myself at home, but I already destroyed my AC by giving it (the engine, not the compressor/turny thingy!) a quick rinse, so if I ever get my engine cleaned I want someone else do it, so they can pay for anything if it gets broken...
