EGR CRAP

I have been messing with this 89 2.8 firebird for about a week trying to get it to run right with the egr connected. The car runs great with it disconnected.
Well guess what, that is how it will stay.
I am enviromentally concerned but when they have to put a hundred different sensors and solenoids on a liitle engine it gets rediculous. If the government is so concerned about the enviroment they would pay for the damn things instead of the auto part stores socking it to us every time we have to replace the crap.
Develop cleaner fuels instead of sleeping with the oil companies and auto makers. besides I have a 1970 Dodge with a 360 that would pass an emissions test before half of these computer laden compacts.
Sorry group I just had to vent.

If you have a digital EGR valve you are pretty much stuck with replacing it,but if you have a vacuum assist EGR all you have to do is unplug the vacuum line and cap it off.
If your EGR is stuck open you need to take PB Blaster ,WD40 or whatever spray it on the diaphraghm shaft and work the diapraghm up and down to free it.
A mechanic told me it is strictly for emissions and wont hurt the engine at all, but I am still going to pull a spark plug periodically and check how it is burning. If the electrode turns white than i will know its too lean but I'm sure it will be just fine.

The Egr can still be taken off and cleaned ,some times they get carbon build up on them and they wont seat properly.
