DAMN 92' camaro RS, i havent driven in 1 month thing wont work!
This whole crap is annoying me, its the 3.1 v6 with auto. Nothing clicks so obviously something is preventing the power to hit the starter, i checked the starter and its working fine, checked security system its fine, what the hell could be the problem, Someone said it could be the ignition switch, i tried reading about it in my haynes book and i cant find anything, i dont even know how the ignition switch looks like, someone please help me, im about to give up on the camaro

I bet when you turn the key on everything else comes on as it normaly does. But when you turn the key to start the engine eveything goes off until you release the key.
If so I had the same problem last year.It was my security crap.I bypassed a relay under the kick panel on drivers side.I can now start the RS with the key you get when you buy a new tumbler for your ignition. The security light never flashed while this was happening. Now I don't have to spend $26 for a damn key.

thats what sort of happens, battery is fine, everything works including all the gauges, lights and all, but when i turn the key nothing clicks nothing turns over, its a possibility it can be the stock security system, the mechanics are looking at the car as of now, and their stunned as well. Can u give me more information on the bypass thingy u did, im sort of new to this digital fuel injection with computers crap

ITS THE VATS TRUST ME I KNOW try rubbing the key on your shirt or rubbing the conectors with an eraser. I have a key to my car every time you put it in the car won tuen on cuz the chip is worn down. thats what your problem
When my VATS took a dive it didn't give me that perrty yellow light. You know the key you get with a new tumbler?I can start my RS with that key and the VATS light will not come on.
Have someone get thier ear down by the kickpanel on drivers side as you turn the key. They should/will here the solenoid click.Remove the kickpanel.Behind some insulation looking stuff you will find the clicker. All we did was jumped a wire from one to the other. Not sure what wires. It was early last year.
I wiggeled, jiggeled, punched, scratched, clawed even spit on the damn key to make it work.I was just wasting my time.I had to jump the starter solenoid that night to get home.

When i turn the key no security light goes on, i tried cleaning the chip on the key with spit and my tshirt any nothing worked, i tried my spare key and nothing as well, should i just buy a new key from the dealer? what should i do????????
You would just be wasting $25.I just jumped a wire on the relay behind the kickpanel by the brake pedel.
I wasted the cash on a new key and it still wouldn't work.I even bought a new tumbler because the wires for the vats had broke.I did some rewireing on it until I could no longer repare it.
On that relay there are 2 or 3 large guage wires. One was green and I think the other are red or yellow. Can't quite remember.Anyway I jumped a wire between the green and on of the others.I basicly just bypassed the relay.
Like I said,I can now start my RS with the spare key that comes with a new tumbler. It's just a key to fit the ignition without a chip.
Will the car start if you jump the starter solenoid? When I get a chance at work tonight I'll take a look to see what wires exactly I bridged.
[edited 9-9-01]It's one of the yellow wires jumped to a large purple wire under the dash.I think this relay is the VATS decoder module circuit.

Well i gave up on the camaro, im taking off the insurance on it and putting the insurance on my duster until i finish putting my project 305 TPI motor. Wiring is not one of my best qualities, i hate wiring, even if its the simplest job. I cant take it anymore, the camaro is gonna be parked in my backyard and itll have to wait till im done putting the motor together and install it myself

Kevin, is that equivilant to the same fix on thirdgen.org's tech article on bypassing the VATS? If so, that's a much simpler idea... just curious, let me know. Hell, if it is the same idea, you might want to submit your solution as a "bypass vats, method #2" technical article!!
