Performance Muffler Opinions

I have a 1991 Camaro RS V-6 3.1 liter auto. I've been hearing mixed opinions about several mufflers. I've heard from several people that a Flowmaster 80's series is crap on a 6 cyl. I'd like opinions from some of you v-6 guys. My car is totally stock except for a K&N & 7mm wires. Also, if anyone has any sound files of their cars, whether Flowmaster, Dynomax, whatever..could you email them to me at CallMeMrNixon@aol.com? Don't worry about filesize..I have a cable modem. I'd like to hear for myself so I can form my own opinion. What I want is a substantially louder sound (I want people to turn their heads when I floor it), with a tone as deep as it is now, or deeper. I don't mind it getting high pitched on revving, I just don't want whining, cracking, etc. As a matter of fact, I kind of like the higher pitched revving...reminds me of an vicious dog showing its teeth...snarling. Thanks a million guys.

Oh, and if you think you already read this post under the Exhaust section, it's because you did.. I posted it under here as well because I'm planning on putting the system in soon, so I want opinions as soon as I can get them..and a lot of them too.

If you could get him to get me an mp3 or something of it, that'd be great.. Or if there's anyone else out there that can testify...the more opinions, the better.

I heard one on here once before from a V6 owner that sounded sweet
I think it was a dynomax or hooker chambered muffler.

The general concensus here is that the Dynomax exhaust system works the best for our cars. You can get that system and if no like the sound get a flowmaster, but the system is still highly worth it at 150ish... fro a 2 1/2 cat back.

theres only one way to get that nice deep V8 sound...
get a V8. The berlinetta I'm savin up for has a flowmaster 70 on it, all it did was make it a loud crappy sounding v6, good is better than loud. It is what it is, a 6, it'll always be a 6, it'll always sound like a 6.
Fortunatly, most people can't tell the difference in the sound of a 6 or an 8.

here ya go. i am running a hooker aero-chamber 2.5" on a stock cat right now. the muffler runs 79.00

Sounds great, not annoyingly loud in the car, and good performance gain. plus no craking or popping at extremely high rpms when the car gets warm. this mp3 is on a cold motor, the tach reached 4500ish rpms.

Well you can't change the fact that it is a V6. no way around it. i have a 92 RS 3.1L with a Flowmaster 80 serires. personaly i like it. If you want a quiter sound go with the Dynomax. It's realy all the quiter but the sound is more mellow. the flow master sounds sweet as hell while idling and at speeds 50 and bellow. it loses it's charm after 50MPH. Not that it's bad just that you can defenitly tell it is a v6, but once again you will never be able to make a v6 sound like a v8. You can only make it sound like a healthy strong v6. Just keep that in mind and what ever you chose you will be happy with. keep you expectations real.

A dynomax with Monza tips sounds nice and strong.. They always know it is not a 350, but some think it is a 305, why they sound different I do not know.

i haven't heard a dynomax, but the hooker sounds great up and down the band. never whines or cracks....its a great sound!!! for 79.00 you can't loose for the muffler, just depends where you get the pipe work done. i got mine done at a good local shop. stainless steel pipe, all welded, great mandrel bends, and gradual reducers for about 280.00. sounds like a lot but well worth it. the sound and performance is amazing!! so deep and throaty. and one of a kind (for the most part)!! and you get a nice prrr above 3500 rpms and on the highway above 50. really a great sound.

The consensus seems to say that you'll be happy with a Dynomax. You might find a muffler later that you like even better, but I bet you'll still be happy with the Dynomax. (Just keep in mind that no cat-back exhaust will make your car sound like a true v8!)
