fuel issue I guess?
what gives.
this car I drive when I get on it will start to buck and sputter like I am running really rich. does not do this often just sometimes.
I was doing a few 0-60 runs tonight and through 3 of them my car was doing fine then started to sputter really bad. when I let off the throttle it idles fine no issue at all. but thn when I gave it throttle it just crapped out. I had a best run so far of 0-60 in 6.7 but even then the car bucked once then hit on it again.
do you think it is my fuel filter or injectors maybe?
this is starting to get on my nerves.
for the most part it does not do that bad this situation is one that comes and goes. most of the time it runs fine but every now and then it does this and I have to let it just idle for like 10-20 seconds it seems then it does just fine

well this goes back to that Octane thread. What octane and BRAND are you using. Are you using it consistantly? meaning every fill up X- brand gas. Remember you get what you pay for on the gas. You buy cheap gas you get *hitty performance. I have bought gas once from Huck's(A local el-cheapo) and never again. My engine knocked for 2 weeks!. even after adding water remover and octane booster 4 times!. The gas was for lack of a better word *hity.
But if you are using the same brand and this happens every so often but not really regularly you may just be getting a dose of bad gas. Otherwise you may want to check the Fuel pressure(can lead to clogged fuel filter/pump) The injectors are a tricky thing to diagnose, if 1 fails(wham you know) if it acts up but not regualary or under the same conditions your in for a headache. The biggest thing I would check is the plugs when it starts doin it. (I know its a pain but you will find the faulty part quicker) If it's 1 "rotational" area(I know you got that rotary) you can find it quicker. And I believe you got escentionally 2 plugs per "clynder" you can even find the area/part quicker.
I love the rotaries, so somple its rediculous. No valves, no valve train, no cam, no push rods, no real pistons... no parasidic loss from that... must be good... LOL... Almost limitless RPM's...
Good luck. You may also have a fouled plug(or 2)... maybe a bad wire too... You may have a fried wire and it can make contact some times but not at others. Just start simple and go from there.

both my cars are doing it
found out on my rx7 it was the wires going to the AFM
I have a split in the wires somewere. can idle fine but when I give it gas it craps out. oh and yeah from what I understand the rotary was made to run at 83 octane. get better mpg out of lower octane and better performance.
my 78 celica I am stumped on that one
checked the filter. both of them for that matter. hope it is not the pump in tank electric.
the plugs on my celica burn slight redish. there are no vac leaks. runs fine most the time. it is carb though.

78 celica, is that the mustang clone?
Definately check the timing on it. bad timing on any car sucks. how long since the timing chain/belt ws changed?

hey man it is even the GT model. I'm sure it can kick all your buts with 0-60 in around 12-15 seconds
but as for when that the timing chain was replaced lsat I would not have a clue.
that car has seen hell many times over again and still likes to vist. lets just say 250k miles never been rebuilt, and runs on no more then 2 quarts of oil at a time and still is ticking and giving me 20-25 mpg.
I red line it daily when I drive it. it has been empty on coolant I still drove it around during the winter for about a 3 weeks or so. and yes it can burn those tires have RWD and on a good day maybe 80-90 hp
I found the problem with the stumbling though it was the fuel filter. and the timing was a little too far advanced
though here is a picture ofthe bod style
sweet little car huh

For the celica, heres what you do:
Take off ALL toymotor badges, replace with 67-69 mustang stuff.
paint it fire engine red.
get svo 2.3 turbo moror, or any 2.3 turbo
have paint shop do "BOSS 2.3" on the sides
ugrade tranny, rear, tires.
I've thought about this for some time, only with a 302, but the 4 banger will balance the car better.

85 Firebird. $150.00
2.8 Auto.
Blown Head Gasket.
turbo has arrived
