(un)impressive track times
Well, I've been talking about it, and finally I have done it. I must say, it is AWESOME! Anyway, now that the exciting part is outta the way, here are my wonderful times
I did 2 runs
1st run (ever) 2nd run
R/T 1.123 (yikes) .776(better)
60' 2.807 2.684
330 8.365 8.139
1/8 12.922 12.757
MPH 53.96 53.99
1000 16.808 16.605
1/4 20.047 19.792
MPH 69.90 71.14
I was looking at some old posts to get a feel of what I should have been running, and I came up with this question... WHY AM I SO DOG SLOW??? There was one other person, ballstothewalls that ran slower than me. What the heck? All you other guys are pullin' 17's! Help!

how many miles have you put on your car?
how was the launch? did you just spin them or bog down really bad?
what is the state of tune your car is in?
auto or stick?
did you have any hesitation?.
if it was a stick how quick do you shift and at what RPM?
what was the temp and track like? that can have a big effect on how you are running.

Well...
1. 107,800
2. Launch was fine.
3. My car? Spin 'em? HA! Didn't bog down.
4. Tune up at 88,766
5. Auto
6. No hesitation
7. N/A
8. Mid-70's some humidity, but not bad.
Both runs I braked with my left foot and brought up the RPM's. First time I waited for green. Second time took off on last yellow (note better R/T). Most people had a hard time hooking up. I didn't.
Edit: The second time I ran it through the gears manually too.

I was taking it almost like hesitation. Like the engine is put under strain and the RPM's drop, and it takes a sec to get the RPM's up.

Another interesting fact... I just did a little calculating and I should be running at approx. 98.1% HP. Just a little F.Y.I.
Correction: more like 99.5%

Well you times seem about right for only having a muffler upgrade.
You major problem is coing out of the hole. Your 60' times are bad. You should be in the 2.2 range on street tires. You dont have the torque to really burn out like a TPI would so you should be able to come out pretty good, and your not.
If you want to be faster do another tune-up. Then practice coming off the line harder. That will really improve your times.
Best thing to do is hold about 2000RPMs onb last yellow goto 3/4 throttle and hold there until you know you have full traction then put it down.

When I came off the line, I held the brake with left foot and brought the RPM's up. The 2nd time, I did take off on the last yellow. I don't think that about 50lbs of speakers and amps helped either. That's my own fault for not taking them out.

20's WOW... See I thought all 2.8's ran 16's.. When all I had was the K&N, MSD Coil, Chrome Tips, Fastchip, I ran 16.4, I tossed on my dynomax and pulled 16.1 something.. I will post my mods with my time, now it is not my best , I hope my ride is faster now, but we will see come winter

Ovrclck,(good light by the way on the 2nd run), I'm only 3 tenths off from your 60' time, it looks like I lose it in the upper-end somewhere. Between there and 1/8 I lose like 2 seconds.
Project: 85 2.8 bird: I don't have a box, all I have is 2 10" JBL GT Series in a piece of plywood cut to fit the shape of our well, with a 600 watt amp mounted in between. Those speakers are hefty though.
Brian: I've got chrome tips too!! Why didn't they help me???
I guess I'm the exception to the 16-17 second rule...

Don't feel bad, I'll bet I'm running slower than you all. I won't know for a while (if at all, getting a new V8 sometime)... but my car is pretty damn slow. Spin the tires? ROFL, I can't even chirp my peuny open rear 195... I know the problem with my car though, thats the only difference.
Anyway, good luck with your times, a tune-up would definatly help.
