Modded 2.8 vs GMPP 3.4....

Which one would be wiser? Smog legal? Faster? I know GMPP claims the engine is legal for '82-'85 S10s...can't the same be said for F bodies too?? Like I said in a different post, whatever I do MUST BE SMOG LEGAL

I keep sliding back and forth between a V6 versus a V8 for this car...the only thing I know is that I love this car way too much to get rid of. I drove the Z most of the summer (other than my 1200 mile road trip), and now that I'm back in the RS, I really missed driving it.

Help!

I don't like the GMPP 3.4 very much. Mainly because of the cost. List price is $2,400. Or, if you can get it at cost, $1,700. Still too much. In the catalog it says "For use with CARBURATORS ONLY" I dunno how an engine is limited to carbs but.....

as long as you transfere all your induction from the 2.8, there shouldn't be a prblem. Also reuse/get new for 2.8 motor & transfere : waterpump & oil pan.
KED5 must be moving right now or he would have answer this. do a search on him for what he did for the swap, vey informative.

I look at it like this, if your going to toss 2400 into a new engine why not order a LT1 and Tranny from billy graham's salvage yard for 100 bucks more.

I got 2 qoutes:
Jim Pace $1779.95
Frank Z (OH) $1887.50

do some more calling around, find a better price.
or just look around the salvage yards.

For a LT1 with all accessories and a un-cut wiring harness with tranny?

If I do this, its gonna be all new stuff. I was thinking 350 TPI possibly...the LT1 has 1 major problem...Opti Spark blows. For 30 less HP stock, I'll stick with an L98 that has more torque to boot.

The thing is, I don't wanna get into tranny swaps too...my tranny is PERFECT. Hence the 3.4 idea...

Did Ked use the GMPP 3.4 as a base???

Carl used a low mileage 3.4 from a wrecked F bod. I think he paid approx. $800 and it had like 40,000 miles....the higher mileage ones were cheaper.
