Cold air photos
Here are some pictures of my attempt at a CAI. Not exactly cold air, or ram air, just more air than the factory box. The filter fits pretty well, and looks good.

looks cool . Can you explain how you did it ? The pictures download over your writing ...I have the bottem of my filter boxes slashed off and k &n's .I have the grill that pushes up air to the filters .So its ramair basically .But I hate that crappy restrictive box !lol I noticed a big improvemen in midrange and upper torque when I did my ramair mod , but Im wondering what I could do with ta better box or rig up something like you did . Thanx . Wayne

All I did was remove the stock box (can) and mounting stud, and the filter slides over the end of the MAF. It is a K&N cone filter, pn# RE-0910, about 8 inches long with a 3" I.D. Anything longer and getting it to fit with the stock tubing may be a problem. The sensor that screws into the stock box, I just tucked it up out of the way. No problems with this so far. I haven't noticed much of a change from my original setup, which was the stock box withe top removed, bottom drilled out, and a K&N drop-in. The car has over 132k on it, and I get about 15mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway. I was too lazy to fabricate the tubing for the complete "custom" set-up alot of people have. I do have about 20' of 3" aluminum tubing, if anyone lives in the Jacksonville area and wants some, email me. As for the website, it my first attempt, just so I could post some pics. Thanks for the postive feedback.

I plan on doing mine soon. I plan on yanking that black box while I'm at it. Doesn't really serve a purpose...

I did the same thing on my Old TPI trans am in '95.It was my first mod, but I though almost everyone was doing that, I guess I should have shared earlier. All I did was modify the MAF to remove the screens and heat sinks(sp?) and and stick a K&N conical filter on it. Worked fine for 6 years

I am revising the website, so there should be some more pictures in there now. I bought a set of Goodyear GSC's from CarNDrvr, and put them on some Trans-Am rims I found in a junk yard. My web building skills are limited, but at least there are captions on the pictures. Once I get the hang of HTML, I'll put in some more stuff. Stay tuned...

This is just a question, don't get upset. You guys call these "COLD AIR" intakes but yet your filter and air intake is still under the hood, isn't there a way to get OUTSIDE the hood.
To my knowledge there isn't any cold air under the hood so what gain is there.

Well its cooler air, its away from all the heat of the engine, and at highway speeds it is cold air.
Ther is a way to get out into the fende, but it requires some fance bending and really just creates restriction defeating the whole point.
This isnt a ram air set up, just to get more cooler air. Anythign is better than that damn can air filter that comes stock

Ducting could also be placed under the bottom of the car to "aim" cold air towards the inside of the fender.
My CAI uses a 4" tube that goes into the fender (where my air box was), and curves down inside the fender, and it exits underneath the passenger side battery tray. (My battery's not there, but it is on some F-bodies.) That's where I put my K&N conical.
