New T-Stat Installed

I put a New T-Stat in 180 Degree noticed my car was a lil pepier my old tstat somehow got rusted dont know how. But any ways here is a Easy way to install a New Tstat took me 20 Mins and i didnt have to take off the upper penleum
Get a 13MM short Sockert with a Swivel and extension that has a little bit of play in it and set it on the bolt and bam its off. While your at it paint the T-Stat housing make it look nicer then that dingy metel color i painted mine almunium Looks Awsome most shiney thing under my hood.

Do you have a gasket to scrape on yours? I need to pull the TB to make scraping my gasket easier on my hands...

Actuly when i went to peop boys they tried to sell me a gasket sayin thts what i needed but ive done this before and there is no gasket the T stat housing mounts glush onto the manafold. but the T stat has a Rubber Gramunt thing around it like a seal and that goes on the lip of the T-Stat and that is what seales it up. If i confused you just tell me an dill try to explain better i just woke up.

Really! Did this grommet come with the t-stat, or did you have to move it from the old stat to the new? I guess the 3.1 motors' intake manifold is different than the 2.8... when I set my thermostat in the hole in the intake manifold, the edge of the t-stat is right against the edge of the hole... as in, I'd have no room for the grommet.

I heard of some water necks coming with a built-in O-ring... but all I see in catalogs are ones for V8's.

You have to go and match the gasket at pepboys they try to sell me a paper gasket and the first time i did that it leaked all over th place and i took the old groment off thikning the paper would work but it leaked. So i went and had to open bags at pepboys to find a new one. When you take the old Tstat out the Fromet is very dry and brittle and harrd like a rock so its easier just to replace it only costs 99 cents

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I have to slop a TON of gasket sealer on that paper gasket to keep it from leaking. That makes scraping the old gasket (twice a year!) into a pain in the *** , fast.

Ya the store sold me the gasket the first time i did it and the next day on my way home from school i pulle dup in my driveway with coolant pooling out of it. I dont think GM uses too many gaskets even our exhaust manafolds dont have gasketss its metel to metel.
