Swerving after shifts in rain?
This question goes out to all my fellow peg leggers (no POSI).. When you guys floor the pedal in the rain with the slick roads, when you shift into 3rd gear, does your car swerve fairly violently to the side at the shift point? Mine does..it's a b^$#& because I'm afraid I'm gonna spin out. Just wondering.
The car is a 91 3.1 liter with automatic transmission.

71 camaro with a 347 and TH 350 would do it in all three gears.
the rx-7 scares the **** out of me a lot more then the camaro did
shifting into 4th even I can get the tires to lose it a little but that is due to balding tires. though it is a 5spd

Got rotary?

What your **** point, if its around redline, then your shifting to hard in the rain, you shift point in the rain should be around 2800 to 3000rpm. also it maybe your tires and wheels, 195/75-14 aren't the greatest in the rain, I'm running 225/60-15, alot more tread. Try wider tires or shifting at a lower rpm.

Ha... Believe me, I KNOW driving like a moron. That may be driving not so wisely, but it isn't driving like a moron. I can handle that car real well. And I can't control what RPM's I shift the car at since it's an auto..all I can do to control that is let off the pedal beforehand.

Some roads are just real crappy, I know there are lots of roads in my area that will send me driving sideways in the rain... most of them are up hills though. I would say don't stomp on the gas in the rain, because the tranny will only accelerate at the pace you tell it to and it will engage more harshly when you give it more gas... it doesn't matter where you shift, just how harshly you engage the next gear.
I don't have any problems with new roads, so I can only say it's the road's fault. BTW I do have a "one tire fire" differential.
Theres just some **** we gotta deal with.

Ok, well I do have pretty hard shifts when I'm really on the pedal..enough to kick you back in your seat. What happens that throws me off, at least what it feels like, is that when it shifts, my peg leg spins a little and throws me out. I can't confirm this, but based on how bad that swerve is, I'd say I'm about 90% sure. I know the pull is too severe to be an alignment problem.. And even during normal driving, I only have very slight drifting. By the way, the slip happens on pretty much any wet roads, although it's terrible on the new black asphalt.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm not planning on keeping the car though, so no major mods for me. It's too weak an engine with too shaky foundations for me to work with. 4 oil leaks leaking about a quart every 1 1/2 -2 weeks, a slightly worn and rough shifting tranny, what I think is throttle stickage, bad tach, sticking speedometer, inconsistent gas mileage/occasional smoke-outs when starting...want me to go on? I'm taking what I can get for it, plus what I can save, to buy a V-8 sometime this upcoming summer. Hopefully I can get a classic I can restore..wish me luck!

best way to solve this is not to drive like a moron.
