I have a question. I might be getting a 95 S-10 with the 4.3L V6 in it. What gears does it have? Could I swap that into myF-bird if it has better gears? Also How much would a 95 S-10 3.4L V6 standard cab auto, with 93K miles should be priced at?

Future Mods: Ram Air hood(98-up style), 4th gen style rear wing, custom Pearl white paint, 3.4L V6 engine swap, custom headers, the list never ends....

Personally I would go with 3.73's, simply because you are going to be pushing about 3000 RPM's at 80-85, with 4.10's the RPMs would be even higher. I should know I just got back from a 130 mile trip cruising about 85 near 3000 RPM's and thinking the whole time I;m glad I didnt get the 4.10's.Actually I wish they made about a 3.60 gear ratio, that would be perfect.
I would lean towards 3.73. The reason being you'lll lose some of your driveibility with 4.10's. If you do alot to moderate highway driving at all I would go with 3.73. As far as what would be stock in your car... anywhere from 2.73(most common) to 3.42.

4.10's are what I am going to do, but:
1. I do not drive it on the highway anymore
2. I do not have to drive it in rain, or any form of bad weather
3. Gas mileage is not a concern in any way as long as it moves quickly
4. I never plan to run over 110 unless it occurs in the 1/4 for some reason.

well, wayne, i would go with 3.73's or 4.11's
if your worried about gas mileage, i wouldnt change your gears at all
4.11's will give you ALOT better off the line
but your top end will suffer pretty badly
also your gas mileage will suffer because it will take more RPM's from the engine to get you to maintain hi-way speeds
3.73's are basically just a slightly weaker version of what i described above
remember to get your speed gear changed 2!!!!!!!
dang wayne, 2 bad i aint down there
i just learned how to rebuild rears in school

SOmething you guys didnt consider is that you have a hard time getting traction with 4.11's or 3.73s. I personally would not go below 3.42 in a Thirdgen without some serious suspension mods and plan on running slicks at teh track.

Haha Kyle fu(ked up. You meant you wouldn't go ABOVE 3.42s in a Thirdgen. Anyways, get 3.73s and save up for a POSI. That will fix ya. Be careful in the rain with high gear ratios though. Third gens are a$$ happy!

The difference between what you have now (3.42) and 3.73 won't be that much so don't expect miricles (damn I'm having a bad spelling day ..lol). With a V-6 4.10's will be a little low but will give you good acceleration , almost like that of a strong V-8. Gas mileage will suffer and top speed will be considerably less, it's all about trade offs. If you want 3.73's go find an L69 Camaro in a junkyard, they got that ratio stock. Other 3rdgens got them as an option so look around, a complete 3.73/posi/disc rear can be bought out of a wrecking yard for less than $400.

You guys are funny
.How hard is it to install gears . Anyone done it ? I have changed things on my car like powersteering pump , heater blower , starter , wires and hoses . Or is this something I should stay away from ?

It takes special tools adn alot of knowledge to properly set up a rear end. If you don't get the backlash, and pinion depth, set right you'll toast it quick.
Before you throw a 4:11 under the car...is you car a stick or an auto?
With an auto I wouldn't go above the 3:73 because the higher 4:11 will cause your overdrive to kick in at say...80mph.The rpm's would be up there but the vehicle speed wouldn't
A 3:73 is good for an auto.
A 4:11 with a stick is fine.Because you control the shifts.
So I will say...if auto go with a 3:73.
Stick,go with 4:11.

The next time you think your perfect, try walking on water!

oooh oooh oooh 4.11
love the 4.11 gears I had with my 71 camaro but also was with a TH 350 so I did not do that well.
much rather have the 3.73 or something like that with the auto
but if you are driving 5spd go with the 4.11 you shift when you want. and you should still be able to hit the 100mph mark. the rex so far has hit 135 with 4.10 though thinking of 4.30's now

ok, wayne
i will give you my BEST advice
DO NOT JUMP INTO NEW GEARS!!!!!
save some money and convert to a disc brake/posi/ 3.73 rear
you'll be much happier in the long run, bro
you can find the rear dirt cheap, and then have the gears put in and save for a brake job/ lines
then swap the whole in
Johnnie, tell him what he's won!!!!!!!!!!!:
no more wheel slippage when you smash the gas
no more chirping your tires
this all means: YOU WILL BE QUICKER!!!!!!!!
and you'll be much happier than with just
new gears

I don't wanna chirp my tires everytime I take off , I dont do it that much right now , but I still like doing it .I dont really drive fast , but I just want more pick up and to be able to chirp the tires some .But I dont wanna have the problem of traction and slippage everytime I take off in traffic ( even though i take off easy ) ....What do you guys think ?
I received an e-mail from Karl guys . He said to tell all of ya'll HEY , he said "I have been a million times million times busy with the house" .He is just getting his computer back up . He said he would be dropping in soon to say hi and me missed everyone .

ok, clarify this for me...
you said not to jump into gears... not to try it yourself...
do you mean puttin new gears in your rear or puttin in a whole new rear???
can i put in a whole new rear? would that be safe??? looks to me like a "plug-n-play" type deal, but what do i know?? nuttin... hahaha
btw, i have 3.42 and i love it... but i want posi.. and maybe 3.73... how much for a junked rear ya think???
and do i need it "rebuilt"? or just put it in?????
thanks...

I dont think gears would make any of our 2.8/3.1s so much faster they can't take off in traffic without slipping
..hehe Don't know what I was thinking !!!

maybe 3.42s ?
damn , am i just thinking about this too much guys ? ?
I dont know , maybe with 3.42s Id say a nice increase in acceleration then when i make some passes at the track I wont have trouble hooking up cus it wont be as high of a ratio ? But damn , its hard to belive our 2.8s 3.1s would ever have traction problems .I mean could you hear some guy at the track saying or me " I JUST CANT GET MY 2.8 TO HOOK UP GUYS
" ...

granted, its a one tire fryer (aka pegleg) but with slightly wider tires than stock (not sure of numbers) she will lay a 30 ft black mark in first, catch second and leave another 10 ft of rubber, then bark third...
i think thats pretty good for a 3.1 dont' you??? or am i just wearing rose colored glasses???

$640 to purchase & install 3.73's? Damn, that's high. Gears are usually $200/set, so they're charging you $440 for installation? I bought & swapped a 3.73/posi/disc rear & rebuild it's brake system (rebuilt calipers, new hoses, e-brake cables) for about $600.

I should have thought about adjusting his detent cable.
If I had thought of that when he installed them I could have saved him the cost of putting his original gear back in.

5.13's? Doesn't that require some sort of glue or what not? I'm happy with my 3.23's... I say build an engine that can utilize the gears you have, not an engine that requires the gears to be fast.

ok, stay with the 3.42, get powertrax posi for $300, just replace spyder gears (& a little more)& not worry about new bearing clearances.
as for the gears in 95 blazer, as an owner, the 3.42 gears were optional, according to the window sticker, not sure what the stock gears were.
