V6 Throttle Body MM size?

Hey guys,

How big is the V6 throttle body? (in millimeters). I'm guessing the Single V6 hole is slightly bigger than the holes in the V8.

How is that measured, anyway? The TB opening is an oval... are we talking width? height?

To tell you the truth, I have no clue. I'm gonna try to dig up some specs on it, and I will let you know what i find.

When GM modified a Cavalier Pace Car for the Indy races (in the 80's), they used a STOCK throttle body from a Corvette.
Adapted that to a modified air box to fit the runners for the 60* V-6.
Give ya any ideas?
Since I moved, I unearthed tons of old car mags I've had. I misplaced that issue with the engine specs.
But, it did say that they used that "custom" set up for the upper intake.

Hey,

Just came back from the junkyard (again) this time with a micrometer.

The throttle plate (what matters) is round.

It measures 54MM as far as I can tell (without of course taking the plate out, but I think I'm pretty darn accurate).

I'm gonna take two apart in the morning (those little T6 screws suck) and get an exact measurement. Either way, it appears
to be 52MM or larger.

My buddy is a machinest. He can bore my holes
for me for free, but asside from that, any good engine shop should be able to do them
for no more than 10-20.00 a hole. So think about it guys, for under 60.00 for everything
(assuming your junkyard doesnt rob you for the 2.8 throttle bodies), and a couple hours of time you can have a 52-54MM throttle body.

I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

My guess is this will get moved to the TPI board eventually, but I do appreciate the responses meanwhile.

How big are the 3.4 ones ?
How big are the 3.8 ones ?
Would this work on our 2.8s ?
Would a vette one work on our cars ?

If so how much do you think one would go for in the junkyard , how hard is it to put on ? Is this enough questions ? Wayne

Not sure how big any of those are.

Vette ones are 48MM. remember, 8 cyl cars have two holes. You V6 guys have 1 hole. So you'd need to find something a little larger.

I bet you a 58MM plate would work pissah on a V6, with an adjustable regulator.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT you MUST USE the TB application for your car.
OR ELSE NOT THING LINES US (cables, etc)
When I did my 3.4 swap, I REALLY WANTED TO KEEP THAT 3.4 set-up.
But, NO WAY, was it EVER gonna work with my 1985 cable & such for gas pedals.
If ya gonna go custom, everything must be Custom.
Increase your air flow into the engine for better performance gain.
