this would be neat to replace te third brake light, or just hung in the rear window.

it would show what gear you are in to the bozo behind you.

before this gets locked, go to Rdio Shack (TM) and get the stuf to make it, get LEDs & breadboard, wire, & other stuff needed.wire it to the shifter, use contacts to provide signals.

If you can't find one near you go to these two links. They have had every thing I ever needed.

www.halted.com
Halted suypply corp. they are the best!!

www.alltronics.com
They are prety good, but I have experienced some problems getting what I order. Allthough in the end they sent the correct parts with no questions.

I always wanted to just blow out the headlights of some SUVs that bother me from behind!
Especially when I'm in my Corvette.
That car is REAL LOW to the ground!

do the less violent alternative, paint ball gun!

especially on those who cut you off. make a specail ball or targeting system that spells out "Loser" on the car

Anyone ever thought about maybe wireing the third brake light so that it flashes like the newer cars out there?Just an idea and if there is a way...tell me,i am seriously thinking about doing the mod myself.

Well, to have an indicator showing which gear the transmission is using (as opposed to where the stick is) is pretty impossible; unless you rig up some kind of magic black box to determine the gear as a function of engine RPM and speed and stick location...

But I'm sure you could rig an optoelectronic setup to "see" where the stick is.. if we're talking about a manual trans, you could use two opto-pair's for "forward/back", and two for "left/right" stick positioning.

Also, check out http://www.allelectronics.com ... (yes, with "elec" in there) Those were the guys I used to order from.

i was kinda hoping not to hafta make it my self.

on the idea of blowing out headlights behind you, myself i have been tempted to put some powerful strobe or hi beam lights on the back of my car.

so that they would pop on and off and give the dude behind you nothing but blue spots to look at. and give him a second thought about tail gating me, which is blinding me so why not return the favor.

Whoever said use a paintball gun... NO That is the kind of crap that gets law enforcement to NOT like paintball guns. Ive been an avid paintballer for 7 years and it kills me to see stupid and idiotic people killing the reputation of the sport.

looking, if i made one myself it would need to be up high, level with the center consol.
the stick just does not move very much down below and i fear up hi is the only way. but it still can be done, how easy im still not sure.

but if im gonna go that far, i thought why not stick a cheap led tac in it too.

make it like rear brake lights in most cars, fit it up aginst the rear window, up high.

well as far as making an indicator. Have a series of Grounds on the shifter plate. Then when the stick hits these grounds it completes the circuit(For the ground), have the lights have juice all the time but they won't light unless the shifter is in a gear. You have to complete the right ground to the gear light though. But all togeather very possible. Hmmm.. thinking now...

ok have two very small points come off the shifter shaft in the front and rear. Mount very small metal pads(like the battery tabs in cheap a$$ flash lights) that are in the position of where the gear shaft is in each gear position. Have each of these pads mounted isolated from the body ground on the trans tunnel. Connect a wire to each tab for each gear light. Have the power to the light constant. As the gear shaft is in a gear it will ground that particular circuit lighting the light.

Now you will have to take your time and be very acurate, but this with the tab effect is quite doable. No optical readers necessary. Just good 'ol american backwoods mechanic's! LOL.

that would work very well, and would be easy.

only problem i could think of is netural, how would it work, every time you shifted, for a sec it would come on.

or just get ride of netural, its not really that important.

i just hate people all up on my butt when im slowing down, brake light dont do very much, but if the person could see that im down shifting, and they better pass or back off.

also just for show when light racing,
as they see me wipe them out and im still just in 2 gear.

maybe lose the netural position but the rpm gague i think is a must have.

if anyone sees a cheap one that might work , hollar.

Hmm the light will only come on when the gear shaft is making contact with one of the "pads". You are using the shifter to create the ground to complete the circuit.
If you try to use the Shifter contact as a "hot or Live" contach you fry your cars electronics, cause you pumping hot juice the the common ground of the car, the body.

So without the ground the lights(LEDS) cannot light. You just have power to them at all times, but unless theres a ground no brightness.

I definetly think I'm gonna find a way to hook some halogens to the bad of my Bird. Some nice White Hot bulbs like in the ricers and have them aimed about ehhhh 4 to 6 feet high and just kinda blind those bastards at night. I don think it would be too hard to wire. Maybe hook it up to the hatch like a 3rd brake like on the 90-92 Birds. Now I know my high school friends would definetly admire that.
