Go find a seized one... for like $50 if that, if you don't plan on using it you can still take it apart, and beat the pistons out of it if U want....

Except for you want MPFI, I would say a 2.8 from an old S-10 would do you fine. You can proabaly pick up an oil guzzling MPFI engine for $75-100, and you can take it apart... But I would say spend no more than $100 on this little project.

Hey Wayne, you want a real education?
Go get the GM PErformance parts book
and read my thread on the 2.8-3.4 swap boogie.
That will let you know, pretty much what you can expect.
THEN go find ANY ENGINE or just hang out at a remanufacturer of engines. Ask for a tour of the plant to see how well they rebuild their offered product. You are investing intheir product, so that is a good idea. See the quality.
PLUS, I've read almost any car magazine I could put my hands on.
My magazine list is up to 6!
Hot Rod, Car Craft, Super Chevy, Chevy Hi Performance, Popular Hot Rodding, Muscle Car Review.
You should be offered most engines, almost for free. Especially these 60* things. No one wants them. Offer to "take it off their hands!" and do supply your own transportation.
You'll be surprised how tiny these 60* engines are.

Way cool to find some good reading.
Check out the pics and such.
Have fun learning.
Wait until your hands gets greasy, that's when the real fun starts.
Isn't that publication worth the $6?

THE OLD CHEVY POWER BOOKS contain the info on really hopping up a 60* V-6.
BUT, all it really spells out is that
it can be done
go within certain limitations
speed costs, how fast do you want to go?
IF you check out my response to Monkie in his how primo can a 2.8 be built, I give the breakdown specs of the "3.4" Chevy Raceshop created for use, to pace the 1990 Indy 500.
Your ultimate answer is to find a used 3.4 and just swap it in and add NOS for ultimate fun.
For the finances used, the used 3.4 swap wins hands down.
