Re: looking at switching air intakes

you can use a air intake sensor from a lt1 ac delco 213-243 and gm grommet 24504388 just drill a hole in the intake pipe.

Re: looking at switching air intakes

if the do a visial inspection there and it fails keep the old parts just for emission testing. this setup will not make your car fail emissions out the tail pipe.

CARB is California. NJ may have something similar. It would almost certainly fail in CA but you'd have to ask locally. What comes out of the tail pipe is irrelevant to the visual inspection.

Put the stock stuff on for testing, then swap over after. It should take that long.

$54 for that thing! Unless you like the r*cer styiling of it, just remove the metal can around your filter now and use a K&N, thats what I did. It'll have no less effect, you'll have a quality air filter, and you're engine bay wont look like that of a highschoolers Honda.

Re: looking at switching air intakes

I see no reason it would fail emissions, unless there is a law requiring the engine to be completely unmodified out there, out here there are 3 forms of emissions testing, tail pipe, and obd II/gas cap, an aftermarket air intake would fail none of these as long as the sensor is still present and operational(and while ideal, it actually does not need to be in the intake pipe, all it is is an air temp sensor, ambient sample will work just fine, but having it actually IN the intake tract is ideal/preferable), so unless california is just that retarded it won't give you any problems passing an emissions test.
