Air pump vacuum
Hello to all I am new to the board and want to thank you all for sharing your wealth of knowledge, I am first time posting and just have not been able to find answer. Background= 91 RS parked in a garage in 2004 running fine then with 255k, odometer stopped working ~4 years earlier. Brother moved, car now in my garage being brought back to life. Wont start, new fuel pump ,sending unit, filter, Fuel pressure 44 psi in on position then drops and holds at 40-41psi All injectors 12.6ohms, ICM checked today and good. If I spray starting fluid will run as lng as being sprayed. Im thinking fuel delivery prob, possibly related to vaccum; all lines correct based on diagrams found here, thanks, except the one from throttle body to fuel pressure regulator then to air pump. Where the ..... does this connect on air pump, can not find out anywhere and parts stores are USELESS!!
Thank you again -ACEN

Re: Air pump vacuum
It's hard to see with the pump installed, but there should be a nipple on the back side of the pump for the line to fit over. If you just plug the line, your motor should run fine once you get it running.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to move some stuff out of the way to get down there and get a better feel and look. Could this have been broken off?

Re: Air pump vacuum
It's been a while since I replaced any vacuum lines on the car. I'd go look to give you a better description, but the car and driveway are snow-covered

What, a little snow gonna stop ya. HaHa I will get behind it tomorrow and let you know. But funny thing is I did plug the line but still no start. What do you think about the fuel pressure reg being bad as a next step?? Also active or retired squid?

Is the SECURITY light on? As long as that light is on, there will be no fuel injection.

Re: Air pump vacuum
The only code is the 12. I have the vac line blocked up as if deleted. Strong battery cranks great really seems like just no fuel. Tomorrow will have neighbor crank while I listen to the injectors, after that... Dont know where to go. Thanks for any additional help.

Re: Air pump vacuum
I read that fuel regulator could cause rich or flooded condition, decided to crank and see if a code generated or burn off fuel..Started after 30 seconds non stopp cranking. Massive vacuum leak though, work on that next. Still can not find where to attach vac line to smog pump, please post picture if you can. I looked at pictures by parts store no help, i could use some.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Air pump vacuum
I'll get the FSM out of the garage tomorrow and take a look at where that line goes to on the AIR pump (if it's in there). Long cranking generally means a bad fuel pump relay that the oil pressure switch is bypassing.

Re: Air pump vacuum
Good to know. Since the initial start in 8 years today, it starts immediately each time ...But to the end of what you said, the oil pressure gage is pegged to the right while running and no codes from aldl. Any relation to the long cranking? I remember needing to change the oil pressure sending unit 2 or 3 times in the first 6 years I owned this car. Thanks for the help with the AIR pump connection.
Cant wait be driving this Camaro again.

Re: Air pump vacuum
Well, there's 2 halves to the oil pressure unit. One side is for the gauge, which probably isn't working. The other side, the oil pressure fuel pump switch, seems to be (closes above 15 PSI of oil pressure) working. Personally, if you've replaced that many of the things, I would start looking at a possible wiring issue on the gauge side (I'm assuming that's why you keep replacing it).
The reason for the long crank is because there seems to be an issue with the fuel pump relay (unless it does prime the pump when you turn the key on), such that you have to wait until the engine builds enough oil pressure to switch the pump on full time. If the fuel pump relay isn't the problem, I'd think that you need to either get a new set of injectors or have them cleaned.

Re: Air pump vacuum
Starting problem is resolved. I will run those wires from OP sending unit though. Is there an alternate way to check this pressure? Thanks
