2.8 performer 4bb hood clearance

I'm planning on doing a intake swap on my carbed 2.8, and was wondering if there are any known hood clearance issues with the 2.8 performer 4bbl intake. I'm not going to use the performer 4bbl intake, but the one I'm planning on using is almost the same height. I did a search, but couldn't find anything. Thanks for your help.

The instructions that come w/ the eddy intake says it close. They want you to measure w/ clay. Now those instructions where written in the 80s, today theres alot more low profile air cleaners to help you w/ hood clearence.

I'm planning on using a S-10 TBI intake, modified to mount my old Chevy 2bbl. That intake is almost a 1/2" taller that the performer.

Are you gonna reuse the varijet carb or another one?
There was a guy around here that put a carb on a 2.8L tbi intake, I think he used a dualjet carb from a 70s 3.8L buick.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Except that the carb is a 2 jet. It's also off of a 3.8 Buick! How long ago was this? I like to find out if he ran into hood clearance issues.

Use a tape measure and compare the height of what is in the car to your mocked up setup on the bench.

I would take that TBI intake down to a machine shop and have them mill most of the center riser where the carb bolts on, way down. You can probably give yourself a little extra clearance here for just a few bucks.

Re: 2.8 performer 4bb hood clearance

I've done a FEW swaps, yes, hahahahahha!

I am currently putting parts together to put a Buick V6 in my standard shift firebird. Some of the research I am doing and parts that I am gathering are relevant to what is being done to the car in this thread.

If I can help, by all means hit me up! I've received tons of help from this site so I have no problem paying it forward.

Re: 2.8 performer 4bb hood clearance

I'll take a measurement and see if it will fit. I have a good friend who happens to know a top notch machinist. So I can get it milled if I need to. There is the heater hose bib about a 1/2" down from the top that would need to get welded shut and re-drilled lower down if I go more than that 1/2". If I had access to a tig, I could do it, but since I don't that will cost a few $$. Best I can tell, the 2.8 TBI intake is about a 1/2" taller than the performer intake. I'll take a measurement and go from there.
