so in my 91 rs 3.1 i noticed when i filled my gas to 1/2 tank last night i drove MAYBY! 15 miles and i used a fricken 1/4 of a tank?!?! it droped that fast! i cant see any leaks from the tank and the lines look ok, but now it seems to be going down at a normal rate, so i figured a hole above 1/4 line in the tank, but i cant seem to find one? my wifes says she smells gas every time shes in it, i smell it once and a while. i just cant figure it out? any ideas?

 

When you remove the gas cap, is there a wosh noise? If not then theres a leak most likely.
Take it to a shop that has a smoke machine, tell them to smoke the gas tank, if theres a leak they should find it.

 

yes it whooshes, not every time but usualy.

 

check your fuel pump too. mine leaked $10 dollars overnight a couple of months ago.

 

that tray under the tank will store signs of gas, reach up into it, gooey or wet will be obvious.

other place to look is on the frame rails under the brake parts under the hood.

 

how would i know if its the pump? the kid who has it before me replaced he pump in the tank by cutting a big flap door outa tthe trunk to it, so i can easly get to the pump..i took the metel cover off fromt under, some black tarish kidna crap on it..not sure what that means..and what do u mean by lines under the breaks? r u talking about the 2 steel lines that go to the fuel rail?

im not sure about the '91, my 83 has it right behind the engine block so it might be a little different.

 

ok so i checked every inch of gas line, no leaks, the pump wasnt leakin, no holes in the tank, fuelrail and injectors didnt leak...im lost..the purge can thing is empty als.o.

 

i found a line comeing somewhere from the gas tank, it looks like some kind of line were presure is realses from the tank, it kinda plugs into a little clip that looks like it help to regulate how much presure it lets out. it was unplugged..lets see if that dose anything
