You're better off getting flanges from NAPA or somewhere and starting fresh... The stock y-pipe is actually a pipe inside a pipe, and it's not very strong.

mav is right its a pipe inside a pipe, its done that way to insulate the heat from the oil pan , if ur going to do dual ex dont go any larger then 2 inch , anything bigger then that will hurt low rpm performance and just make the thing loud.

hell dual 1.75 would be just fine

Re: 2.8l stock y pipe size

go with 2 inch to be on the safe side , id have to dbl check if dual 1.75 pipe wpould be enough but im pretty sure it is

dual 2 inch would support a ton more power then u could actually make without a turbo or nitrous

besdies the fact that finding decent mufflers for 1.75 will be harder

Re: 2.8l stock y pipe size

dont do glasspacks , they will sound like total crap

if anything get the cherrybomb turbo style mufflers, i used those on my old iroc with dual 2.5 inch pipes and they sounded good, theres enough room to mount them infront of the rear on each side and then u can either do turn downs before the axle or put the tailpipes up and over the rear and out the back like stock

on a v8 yes the v6 is kind of tricky to make it sound good, a v6 witht he regular flowmaster sounds good at idle but really crappy at anything other then idle

i have never heard a v6 with duals and flowmasters so i cant tell u if it would sound decent or not but i have a feeling it would be very raspy

the best sounding mufflers for the v6 i have heard are the magnaflows of dynomax mufflers

morosso makes bullet mufflers that are called spiral flows iirc those are supposed to sound good too
