wont start

I have a 1992 Firebird 3.1 and it wont start. It turns over like a champ and is getting fuel, injectors are firing and plugs are firing, but it wont start any idea of what to do. Replaced distributor cap, rotor and module on distributor. Also checked the injectors, plugs and wires. NEED HELP TO GET IT RUNNING AGAIN!!!!

Theory is, If you are 100% that you are getting fuel and spark? If you are sure you are getting both, I think it is a timing issue.

Ensure you plugs aren't Fuel Saturated and wet, If they are replace them, Don't attempt to burn off the fuel with a Torch..

Re: wont start

starting fluid

If it will not even try to start on it, you have bad spark.

If it does try and start but dies out, you have fuel problems.

Describe what events took place from the time when it was running to the time when it would no longer run.

How are you checking for Fuel and Spark? Please be specific on how you are testing these and what you are doing.

checking the spark with the plug and a ground spot, and checked the injectors with a noidlight. and the fuel with a pressure gauge

you can also check the resistance on the injectors. You need to do this when they are cold and warm if possible. If any of them read 12.0 ohms or less then coils are failing.

What got it fixed?
After a short run sometimes my '89 base bird (2.8 mpfi)won't restart for anything. Leave it alone for a while and starts right up. Other than that it runs great. Spark might be a little orangish (low voltage)but I think it might be a SECURITY issue, not sure yet.
Wouldn't start even with starter fluid, so I'll be looking at spark but I'm wondering why it otherwise runs flawlessly.

Re: wont start

^ burnt out FP relay system, so only when the engine hits 7psi of oil pressure, does the back up switch kick in and the car then starts. So you have to crank once or twice

only happens in the cold to me [below 40]

This thread is from 2013, and the original poster hasn't posted here since then. Since this thread is 9 years dead, why not start a new thread (they're free you know ) and get some updated answers to your problem ?

Re: wont start

We can all learn from old archive and even old treads
1986 Pontiac Trans am 305 carburetor, Wouldn't Start
Check my spark plugs, and found out worms out and smel llike fuel, weet
One spark plug was unscrew and to my big surprise a wire was cut

I replace all spark plug change the wires and also put lots starting fuel in choke and carb
Let it stand 5 hours to let the fuel starter clean up gums and old gas and to give it time to evaporate
Then it started like a new car, hope this can be useful to any one out there.

The problem with glomming on an old dead thread about a dead car is that there are MANY things that will cause a no start condition, and it's best that people learn to actually TROUBLESHOOT problems VS hoping someone else's solution happens to somehow magically cure their car
