2.8 V6 Y pipe replacement

I am looking for a Y pipe for an 82 Firebird 2.8L V6. I found the the below link to Summit Racing of a Y pipe for an 85 V6. I can't see how there would be much difference between the 82 Y pipe and that for an 85. Does anyone know if there is a difference between the V6 Y pipes through the years.

Re: 2.8 V6 Y pipe replacement

Get the 85 pipe. I had bought one off of an 84 or something years ago and found out 2 things:

1. Early pipes were smaller diameter. They also use different donut (manifold flange) gaskets.
2. Early pipes don't have the provision for the oxygen sensor. You will need to plug this (they have plugs for them) if you don't have one.

Thanks for that. I had found a Walker 40446 pipe from discountautoparts and ordered it but now they tell me it is out of stock. I will try and order the 40442 pipe. I think they have it at Rockauto.

Thanks.

Re: 2.8 V6 Y pipe replacement

Keep in mind that if you do get the larger diameter MPFI pipe, you will also need to use the Walker 31550 (I believe that's the P/N) donut gaskets. Your existing gaskets, or similar, for the carb V6, are too small.

I may have posted a pic of the differences between the old and new donuts somewhere...
