3.4 liter swap

ok it has been a very long time since i have been on here... the new LS1s are starting to pick up some craze, and no wander why they have. i mean i just got done swapping a 5.3 into my 78 pick up, with a 4L80E, not finished with it yet, but its all mechaniclly there. Any ways my brother wants me to build his RS, ground up drive train... The thing about the drive train. he wants me to swap in a 3.4 liter V6 over the 350 TBI. ive learned that you can swap heads and such from the 99+ fwd 3.1 liter and make 200 hp. well my brother wants a turbo. and a five speed.. ever since he rode in a V6 5 speed berreta, he has mortified himself with the V6 and the 5 speed. since were gonna turbo charge it, and i want it to rev to 6500-7000 without blowing up, what would some of you guys do with the cam and lifters? and what else should i be looking for, was just thinking fourth gen 5 speed, but is there a stronger 5 speed? any info or critical view points would be welcome

Ask a moderator to move this to the V6 section.

Re: 3.4 liter swap

This swap makes no sense

The only reason to consider a 3.4 is if your stock v6 is dead and you need a cheap replacement. Choosing the new v6 over any v8 even the old 305tbi is a step backwards. Turbo and a t5? Sure, get a spare trans while you're at it. Trying to make power with a 60* v6 vs a LSx engine is silly

Drive your 5.3 swap and the v6 will lose its appeal. A t5 will live behind a 5.3 if you drive with some sense

Smack your brother in the back of the head for wanting to drop the 350 for a 3.4

Re: 3.4 liter swap

If you are going to swap in a V6, do a 3500 LX9.

Mars went deep 11's with his and a decent turbo, I went mid 13's with mine that had some porting, a good cam and headers. I still got over 30 MPG highway with 4.10 gears and a 4K stall with a 700R4.

I agree with pocket to the extent of the gen 1 3.4, only should be swapped in if you just need something to drive. However it's been proven time and time again that the gen 3 60v6 is capable of making serious power.. and at only 350 LBS dressed it makes for a very well balanced car.

and no way on the T5, you are going to need something better for sure. Caffeine figured out how to get a T56 in his: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/6...d-finally.html

Re: 3.4 liter swap

thanks everyone for the help, especially you pocket. my brother wants either the camaro or the fwd or something... Ive been looking around, really would like to make an indy 500 sprint car engine with this 3.4 liter idea. Hes just being stubborn, he's trying not to be stereotypical with the V8s cause he thinks everyones gone crazy and abandoned the V6 for the more idea motor junky crusade crazy gas guzzling V8s (efficient to me that is, not him). hes not very bright in engine efficiency's yet. meaning he lacks our outlook or knowledge and such on the matter. sorry for posting in the wrong engine swap area..

Wasn't so much the "wrong" area, you'll just get better answers in the V6 forum than in the Engine Swap forum.
