was wanting to find out if there were any after market plenums for the v6? Mine is filthy as hell and the top corner where the bolt for the throttle body goes is cracked. Patched it with some rtv but want to get it replaced ASAP not sure if there is anywhere i can buy a new one or if my only option is a yard. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

I think Edelbrock made one for a while. Not sure if they still make it though. I have one of a 1986 2.8 V6. Run a search and see what you can dig up. If nothing else then you now know a guy that will sell you one.

For your 3.1L you really don't have any aftermarket options. If its just filthy you can just clean it up. Aluminum is pretty easy to clean. If you want it to look really nice you can clean off the casting of the aluminum and then polish it smooth with heavy to very light grit sand paper. I did that to mine and topped it off with primer, base, and clear coat. I think it looks nice.
There's even a few members that have polished them to be shiny(polished aluminum) I just didn't have the time and patients for that, so mine became painted.

Your welcome. Can you tell me what that bracket is that is coming off the drivers side? Mine has the one for the alternator on the passengers side.

It's for the AC compressor.

Mag wheel cleaner from the auto store is helpful in cleaning aluminum parts. Read the label and make sure it has phosphoric acid along with 'other' organic acids.

Wait until you try to do it. I've been polishing an aluminum rocker cover and by the time I'm done I'll have one polished and one not because I don't want to have to do it all again! My fingers are too old for that much polishing.Originally Posted by '86 Sport Coupe
