2.8 valve cover gaskets different?

I found an interesting thing at the swap meet yesterday. I was looking through about 300 different valve cover gaskets and found what I was looking for. Gm 2.8 173 cork valve cover gaskets. Guy says he wants a dollar. $1. Couldnt get better than that, still sealed in the blisterpack. However there was one thing on the label that confused me. It said "For non-MFI engines", but for a dollar I bought them anyway.

Now heres my question.
Did the carbed version of the 2.8 have a different valve cover gasket than the MPFI? I dont think so so lets get a definitive answer.

What do the members of TGO say???

Re: 2.8 valve cover gaskets different?

Iirc when you would look up say a carbed 2.8 such as a 1983 or arround then and compare it to a 3.1l the valve covers are different. The edges are rounded on a carbed 2.8 compared to straight edge corners on the 3.1l.

Also anytime u have questions just look them up on autozone or felpro and cross reference them. Using the pics and mainly the part numbers

Ok, i know what you mean now. As in the carbed 2.8 the bolt holes actually go out and the valve covers dont have a straight edge but the mpfi does have a straight edge where the gaskets go.

So would I be able to trim the outside of the gasket where the holes go out to make them straight? Or just buy the gaskets i need?

I figured for a dollar it was worth a shot.
