Car: camaro
Engine: 3.1 :(
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: stock
v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

So, I got this 3.4 ( build up as a 3.1 )

mods done to it are
pacesetter headers
comp cams 264H cam
heads ported and polished
intake ported and polished
new valves and springs
new timing chain + gears
new lifters.
completely washed out throttle valve. ( soaked it in gasoline for a day and cleaned with a toothbrush )
3.4 injectors.
new coil
new distributor
new ICM
new rotor
new cap

new spark plug wires ( on my old set last week I had 1 wire that had 35Kohm restance insteat of the stock 5Kohm.
I thought running on 5 cilinders was the cause of this problem, but I guess not.

th700r4
rebuild
transgo shift kit.

what does the car do.
well it seems that my car accelerates faster on half throttle then on full throttle.
ofcours at half throttle my car shifts up around 3500 rpm.
ad at full since it looks like I have less power at full throttle, still shift under 3500 rpm.

but it looks like its not the tranny but the engine doing it.
like im hitting a brick wall and I dont know why.

base timing is 10 degrees btw.

anyone has an idea whats going on ( I do have a bit low vacuum thx to the cam/headers/porting but I didnt think it would be that disastrous.

maybe my ecm is ****ing up timing now at said RPM, I really dont know.
and would I have to increase timing at those RPM or decrease, I dont know either.

If it's all put together right and all sensors working etc. it may be you need a re-tune on the ecm. Probably a must anyway to take advantage of all the stuff you did.

Re: v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

I'm busy with a retune, altough I havent messed with the spark anf fuel tables yet.....
I did had to disable the knock sensor since it kept picking up false knock.
still searching for that problem to....

If you can post a log file on the efi board one of the tuning wizards may be able to help.

Re: v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

wel, checked my timing again, and it was at 6 degrees.
so I changed it back to 10 degrees.

car now pulls up to atleast 4200 rpm. ( couldnt go all out 0 engine wasnt hot and didnt find a place to go all out anyway.)
only during decelerating I sometimes here exhaust backfires wich im not quit fund of. but its still better then intake backfires.

Re: v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

I now gave te car 2 degrees of timing extra on low RPM high vacuum moments.
80 -100hg and 400 to 1200RPM. the exaust backfires are now almost completely gone and the car doesnt try to stall so much anymore.

anyway, these is my spark plug reading after a 20 mile drive.
question is should I advance it some more at idle.

also, car is still running hot at around 200 degrees. ( it aint disastrous hot but still) for just cruising around 0-45mph,......

Re: v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

Is the exhaust clogged anywhere? Uncap the exhaust and see if it goes past 4200 rpm (just don't melt anything of course)

Re: v6 aint going over 3500 rpm in drive

exhaust isnt clogged.
cat is empty and standard muffler is good. ( but it gets a new muffler dynomax VT ) soon.
havent pushed it over 4200 yet ( in gear )
thinks im a bit scared.

need some place, and even then need to be able to stop.
the last part isnt easy if the chance of stalling can occur. altough this already is less then before since I bumped the timing 2 degrees at low RPM.
but when the timing was still on 6degrees base timing, that was 1 of the reasons I couldnt push it over 3500RPM.

so I was thinking of maybe bumping timing up again 2 degrees in low RPM and work my way up into the higher RPM.
