Anybody heard of these?? Supposed Turbo 2.8s factory?
Lol, I know its hardly believable coming from a guy at Advance, cause they all "know it all". So don't take this too seriously, unless there is "proof".
So I happened to let one of the parts guys know about my turbo 2.8 project, and he asked me if I had the turbo headers fabricated, or if I had found "factory turbo 2.8" headers. The story goes on like this.
He said, "In 85, they released 500 s10s, with a blow through turbo setup on a 2.8. They came with(the fabled, which I have never seen or heard of) 2.8 factory aluminum heads. I have one of the 2.8s with the aluminum heads sitting in my shop."
So I played along, because I have only ever heard of this once before, with no evidence whatsoever. I told him I would like to take a look at it one day and take some pics of it. He said sure.
Here is the kicker. I mentioned the hybrid swap. He had no freaking idea what I was talking about, so I gave him a quick run down, but he is a V8 carb guy, so you know how that went.
Is my magnet going to stick to those "aluminum" heads? He also mentioned that they did away with them presumably because the turbos liked to fly apart. I think it was more likely that if these motors did exist, that the weaker carbed 2.8 cranks were the weakest link.
At this point, im not believing or not believing. Though this is the second time that I have heard this "unicorn" mentioned. Also it came from a V8 Carb diehard, so I kinda already think its BS. (Not knocking the V8 guys here).
What say you?

Not true at all.
There were no 2.8L Turbo S-10s from the factory, none of the RWD 60 degree V6s were ever aluminum headed from the factory, none, ziltch, nada. They were all iron headed.
There was a company (Potter Racing heads) that made gen1 (RWD style) heads in aluminum, but never factory installed.
There was the turbo 4.3 S-10, better known as the Syclone, offered in '92 to '93. These also had iron heads.

I bet if my magnet doesnt stick to the heads, itll have a part number corresponding to Potter Racing. It amazes me when people have no clue what they are talking about, lol. Oh wait, thats 99% of the employees at the parts store. Im sure there are a few that know their stuff, but not by me lol.
I had that feeling that he was a know it all, but for all I know, a friend of a friend of a friend told him so he had to believe it....
Just figured Id post it up and get to the bottom, thanks.
How much you wanna bet he has FWD heads on it with no clue.

The only Turbo S10 from the factory were the Typhoon and the Cyclone and they were a 4.3 v6 not a 2.8

If you do actually see it, take some pictures, regardless of what it actually turns out to be.
