My 89 Trans Am build. Pic heavy!!
Well its been awhile since Ive posted something on here. I thought id share my build with everyone and also to get some advice as i go along!!
i had more pics from the start but unfortunately i left my old phone on top of my roof and its probably in a million pieces on steels ave lol
anywhoo lets get everyone caught up
I was originally going to fix up my 86 bird 2.8L 5 speed but i saw this 89 T/A for a price i couldn't refuse, plus the floor and body was in way better shape.
The previous owner was parting it out and i got it just in time before all the interior was gone, it was a rolling shell with only a rear end. The car was originally a V8 auto but i'm going to swap everything from the 86 (engine, tranny, engine and chassis harness)
well after gutting the rest of the entire interior i was surprised to see the passenger floor rusted, ( 3 or 4 quarter sized holes).. got worse as i grinded. I eventually patched the floor with some rust converter, sheet metal and a little fiberglass. The the next step was to cut the hole for the shifter, i was lucky to have a donor car as my measurements came from that.

Good thing the boss was on a weekend vacation, so that left me with a little time on my hands at the shop.
Finally got around to cutting my shifter hole. Man was that ever a pain taking measurements back and forth out of both cars lol

After a busy at work day, we finally closed the front bay and when things were quite i got to spraying. This rubberized undercoating stuff worked and looked great! I was originally going to brush on some rocker guard but didn't like the way it was going on.

Did some reading on this relfextic Hvac stuff, figured id give it a try to lower some inside temp and MAYBE dampen some sound. Plus at $50 for almost 180 sq ft i couldn't go wrong.

Here's a little more. I'm going to take this all the way to the rear of the car.
figured if i came this far why not go the extra mile.

Rain rain go away come again another day -_-
Well the work day ended and i finally got to put some more work into the car after we pushed her in from the HEAVY MASSIVE rain we got here today. To my surprise what do i see? water, all inside the car and under neath the insulation

I'm thinking of dehumidifying the car tomorrow, hopefully my boss will bring his from home

Re: My 89 Trans Am build. Pic heavy!!
Once again, its been awhile since Ive posted back. The project is surely coming along but time seems to be always slipping out of my hands.
well between the shop work and the GF, Ive manage to get some more work done on her. (will post pics shortly)

unfortunately i started back school now (level 2 aprenticeship) and ive only got Saturdays to work on her, providing the the weather doesn't turn on me.
Ironically every time i want to touch the car now, it seems like all of a sudden it wants to snow LOL -_-
i guess that's Murphy Law for ya...

Well i just wana give out a big shout out to Ontario fiber glass productions
http://www.joepenko.com/ontario-fibe...roduction.html
i seen his add on kijiji and needed a headliner as mine was very brittle.
i just wished that the holes were pre cut. none the less i cut the holes but haven't had the time to elongate them to make it fit properly.
i needed an extra hand at the time, but no worries. I will get back to once i get the car running.
on the back burner for now.

sneak peak of the engine bay...
dont mind the shitty quality photo, had to size down the picture using paint. It totally took the beauty away.
anybody have a better idea to sizing down pics? without distorting quality.
already have the block painted chevy orange with metalcast metallic blue valve and timing covers, refinished painted black pulleys, and metal cast silver accessory brackets

Just make sure you seal up that leak that let the water inside. You won't want that to happen again once you're finished
Good luck with your harness there. A GM service manual will take you far in this case.
That's the best advice I can give you right now.
Keep going

lets just hope i don't have to buy t top seal's lol
i also drilled a 1 3/4" hole in the rear floor pan seat and plugged it with a rubber grommet for easy drainage if necessary.

Re: My 89 Trans Am build. Pic heavy!!
its been a while but im back on her now!! recently ive put back all the interior expcet the rear hatch motor cover... i need to change the lock but i can seen to find where to purchase one?
other than that, dashboard is all togerther and eng harness is all in now. Just got too lable and trim a few connectors and then should be good to go. since im at this stage now, is there any advice or anything i should think about doing before the motors and tranny go in? will post some pics when i upload them off my phone.

Clean engine bay and transmission tunnel, fix paint where necessary, check for cracks in body around transmission tunnel, put body protection into each and every open hole and perhaps some oil-based protective fluid into any overlapping sheet metal.
