modded 2.8 dyno

Well went to the pepboys speed shop show sunday...they had a mobile dyno so i hit it...with a near stock cam (crane 2030) and other mods heres what i put down...sadly it was a 4th gear pull...(upset as hell)

Hp 125
Tq 168
It should have made more it was on a dyno jet but a lot of cars...i mean outlaw 10.5 cars were barely putting down 345...but yeah i have the sheet attached to but they didnt push the cars either..
Chart is attached and next part going in a high lift cam...crane 272

Re: modded 2.8 dyno

Yea a 272 will help alot. Are the heads ported out at all? That will help a ton with that bigger cam.

put a stock ported manifold back on it , that Siamesed intake is hurting it big time ,

272 cam is to big for a street car , put a 260 in it

How so is it hurting it...im asking because mine were damn near siamesed stock like gasket matched, i just had to port out the edges....and why do you think the cam is to high? Im asking for information. Not to knock you or nothing

the 2.3/3.1 has a long runner intake hich makes its power low to mid range
when u siamiese it it moves its powerband way up , well the cam u have is basically the truck cam for towing i.e power down low so u want everything to match up

the 272 cam is a top end cam complete mismatch for the intake on the engine

the 260 cam is a upper low to upper midrange cam much better suited specially for a street car with stock gears and converter

u need all ur parts and mods to work together for the best results
look at ur dyno graph everything falls off around 3,500 to 4k rpms

the 260 cam would work ok withthe siamiesed intake

Re: modded 2.8 dyno

You might be looking at the wrong cam...it's a low mid range cam...it's the same one as am91 as well. And the dyno was a 4th gear pull too they didn't push any of the motors that day.

Re: modded 2.8 dyno

opps was thinking about the 2020 , and 4th gear is the correct 1-1 gear to do a dyno pull in

call up delta and have them grind u the 260 grind on 114lsa with .475 lift, that cam is the **** , just dbl check to make sure u have retianer to valve guide clearance and that ur springs wont bind at that lift

its 105$'s shipped and way better then any off the shelf cam

other then that u did pretty well most 3.1's will dyno right around 100rwhp swap the cam and tune it and i bet u see 160 rwhp

the crane h-272-2 isnt to bad its much smaller then the other 272 grind cam out there, i keep forgeting crane has that small hydraulic 272 grind

all of us pretty much use delta cams now fasteddie has the delta 260 in his 11 second hybrid, been trying to get him to upgrade to the delta 272 grind
if he got rid of that autozone converter in his car it would prolly go supper low 11's or really high 10's with that 260 camn in it

the 272 shoudl do well being u have a 5 speed car, if u really want to make it shine build a pizza box intake

be sure to check clearance for .480 lift it will be close , id also throw a 1.6 rocker on the intake side , and leave 1.5's on the ex side

It's a auto (seriously built one from monster transmission) you should check out my build thread, I have 1.6 roller tips as well...this motor is really a 3.3 but .7 ci extra I don't really bother counting

in that case they didnt dyno it correctly, it shoudl have been dynoed in 3rd gear
so ur numbers are low but the graph should still read ok for the curve

what converter do u have in the transmission ? its going to want some stall speed witht hat 272 grind

Re: modded 2.8 dyno

yeah that's why I was saying that it should have been in 3rd gear but was sadly in 4th...and it's a 2000 stall but I can hold it up to about 2300 almost 2500 before it starts try and break loose

that should work ok for that cam, sounds like the s10 high stall variant on the converter

do u have a wideband o2 on the car , the maf sensor does a pretty good job of keeping up with mods but an adjustable fpr should help ya dial it in a lil more

add 4* of base timing and run the r42 delco plug if u arent already

no wide band yet, fast and AM were telling me about them...bloody things are $$$ but I will eventually Fpr is on the list too, and 4* isn't that a little to far advanced? sad thing about the timing is I need to get a new balancer I spun my current one pretty bad...took it to my mechanic to so he could verify it,and well it's off by well lets just say alot smh. Are the R42s the rapid fires? If so I have them if not I'll look into getting them and if so can you tell me the differences between the 2

acdelco r42tsk or r42ts i forget the exact part number they are the standard plugs for the 2.8/3.1/3.4 , they are just a colder plug then stock and one of the best plugs for these engines

stock is a r43 some years did get the 42's stock though

4* is fine i ran +6 on my turbo build which is alot more sensitive to timing then an n/a build

+4 will pick it up some in the mid and upper ranges , might loose a touch at off idle

the reason for the colder plug is to help prevent preignition with the advanced timing.

ok I here you think you might be able to get the part numbers for me and which of the 2 do you recommend, I had always thought that the rapid fires were good, but you learn something new everyday lol and once I get the new balancer I'll get them and do the plus 4*
