Makin a boneyard run tomorrow
Tommorrow I plan on getting me some fuel injectors out of the boneyard .I was thinking I might as well get the plenum and intake manifold so I can practice with it for a little while before I port the one on my engine .Any of you guys ever got this combo out of a wrecking yard ? How much is the plenum and intake ? What tools am I going to need to pull it guys ? ..I dont wanna just bring a bunch of tools their , then not have what I need .Thanx as always guys ......Today I pulled me a tailight and dash vent off of a thirdgen .This boneyard that I went to had almost all the motors pulled out of the cars so I couldn't get that kinda stuff there . I really hate to see wrecked thirdgens or any camaros in the boneyard

Wayne Wayne, having just done this project again (remove intake set up to CURE vacuum leaks-yeah-DONE!), you need
10mm 12 point socket.
One very small head straight edge screwdriver to undo the "clips" for injectors
Wire cutters for removing the harness
Adjustable wrench for the hard fuel lines.
That should do it.

Wayne, IT DEPENDS.
Those injector clips can be a real bastard.
Intake, if accessable, is 10 second job.
OH
I forgot the throttle body set up. That's a 13mm, I believe.
Want real fun?
Bring a hack saw.
Works on rubber lines REAL GOOD.
How do you think I kept taking out radiators in the yard so quick on a past Friday?
I hacksawed every line I could.
All four lines holding the tanks in.
Top, bottom hose & two trany lines.
Took about two minutes, tops. Lots of fun!

you're lucky. over teh summer i must have went to at least a dozen boneyards, and found 2 camaros. i was looking for a top radiador mount (STILL have my broken one on), and both of them were 8's so i couldn't use em.

Thanx Karl , ...Yeah , we have a good many boneyards surrounding the city out in the rural areas down here .I was just reading an old post from awhile back where someone said " find a fiero and pull as many parts as you can '' ...I was just thinking I wonder if a fiero intake and plenum would flow better ? Would it work on my 2.8 ? Are the injectors in it then same ? Or should I just stick to finding a camaro with a 2.8 in it ?

See if they let you grab the whole fuel rail with the injectors still on it! That way, you could play with those injector-to-rail-clips at home. Also try to make off with the injector wiring harness.
The fuel rail (w/injectors) will be hard to pry up out of the intake manifold. Bring a big screwdriver or crowbar... pry between the rail and the intake manifold. You'll probably wind up ripping the injector o-rings- they're probably melted to the intake manifold- but you'd have to replace 'em anyway.
I like that hacksaw idea, Karl! I might bring a hacksaw with me to the junkyard just to cut through some radiator hoses for fun!

Wayne.
ONLY the F Body intake operates CORRECTLY with the F Body Linkage/Throttle cables/etc.
Honest.
The injectors are the same.
Aren't you having a set cleaned for your ride?
Isn't there a swap core charge you can just pay from this guy, instead of doing injector job twice?
People tend to do this real often with Corvette brake caliper core chareges.
They do have to "Stop" the car, ya know
while they drive it.
Stick with the stock set up you find.
The more intake looks identical to your car now, the better results in long run.
Fitment is the issue.

GRAB THE VALVE COVERS! I saw a set on Friday, I was there. It's labor/mission to remove those. Plan that in your day or for next time visit. I barely had enough cash on hand for radiator. I got out without paying core charge ($10). And it was closing time on a rainy day. They wanted to leave, too!
Broken fan shrouds.
They stay in place due to AC hoses crossing the back side of fan.
Other trick to do (I do this, cause mine is broken, also), Use ZIP TIES to hold it in place. I have mine going thru the area where the bolts are.
Why replace it, it works fine this way. PLUS, I can flip over the top and remove radiator in nano-seconds. Flip back, it all stays in place.

Karl , I just called Don's hot rod to order my converter . What size is our inlet/outlet .Do ya think ours would be the same ? mine is an 88 ...ya prabably know camaro 2.8 fuel injection...Thanx ..Wayne
Wayne,
I've gotten a 2 1/2" in & out.
ASK HIM IF HE SELLS A CROSS OVER Y PIPE SET UP FOR V-8's, also. You can "modify a V-8 set up to go to factory exhaust manifolds.
I just found one, but not at my price I wanna pay.

Hacksaws are very good for many jobs... an esential to any junk yard kit... that and every size wrench you can find... My friend and I labored over these sway bars on an '88 Formula for 2 hours, we decided to go out and buy a hack saw... took the sway bars off (in one peice) in less than 20 minutes each when we got back.
