Header options?

Are there any options for v6 headers other than pacesetter? I'm hearing so many bad things about them I'd like to see what my options are

Re: Header options?

What have you heard that was so bad about the Pacesetter ones? I got them when they first came out and had no issues w/ them at all. There are no other ones made specifically for our cars without some sort of modification to them that I'm aware of.

Re: Header options?

I saw a picture of a set that had broken on the passenger side where the egr tube goes in. Not cracked, but completely broken

I have seen similar things from just about every manufacturer. Pacesetters are cheaper but they seem to do the job. Ran them on my accord for a long time only rust killed them and in NY rust kills everything.

Re: Header options?

That would be the only bad thing I've heard about them on here. Most people who bought them were more than happy with them. Granted I haven't been on the V6 boards as much, but I don't think there were a lot of issues with them on our cars.

I could be wrong though.

Re: Header options?

I've had Pacesetters on my 88 for almost 10 years, and not a problem one! Been through 2 intermediate pipes in that time...
Use red sillicone on the header gaskets, and they'll (almost) never leak.
I've had bolts back out, but still no leaks!

Speaking of PaceSetters and rust, anyone know where to get a replacement crossover pipe? Headers are fine here. Crossover getting pretty cruddy. NY blows...

Re: Header options?

Just a thought....can't the headers be coated to prevent rust?

Re: Header options?

I'd love a set of headers for my 83... but just could never justify the price for a new set. If I found some used ones... I'd be ditching my emissions junk so fast...

Re: Header options?

Hi there,
Have you checked out Jegs prices? They have a set of Pacesetters, ceramic-coated, for $440.00 Seems pretty reasonable.

Re: Header options?

Yikes, for $440 I could get three sets of v8 headers!

Re: Header options?

440 is alot, im curious if ebay has a decent header like they do the v8s. not saying they are amazing but for the 100 bucks and being stainless they are worth at least that.

Have you ever bought a set of those sub $150 V8 headers? They are JUNK. I've installed a few sets, and they warp, after a while due to the fanges being too thin. Cutting the flanges between the ports helps, but once they are removed re-installing them is usually where they never re-seal.

There's also a supply and demand difference. V8s have more demand and supply is easy, so the price is low. V6s have a MUCH smaller demand and therefore supply is also low, which drives up the price.

You want to play, you have to pay.

Re: Header options?

If there was a big gain to be had, it'd justify cost. I know these motors need all the help they can get but it isn't like headers are going to make it a rocket!

If I ever find a cheap set, I'll do it just for giggles. Love to hear what the carb'ed 2.8 would sound like with nice throaty exhaust! haha
