Punctuation is very helpful. I had to read it a few times to get what you were saying. So you had a head gasket blow, some guy half way fixed it, you got it home and finished the repair yourself and now you think the RPMs are too high at 25mph. Let's start here:
- Is this an auto or manual car?
- What are the RPMs at when you're doing 25mph?

Lacking serious power, are you sure timing is correct, both the distributor and the timing chain? Did you over tighten the rockers and have a valve or more sticking open? Does it start hard at all, both warm and cold? Where does it idle both warm and cold?

When I get I started it idles normal maybe 1k, but he said he made sure the timing was right. Is there any way u or some else could give me all info to tear it all back down and do it right from timing Chain up, I coulda done it the first time just didn't wanna do the research.

Re: need help

You need 2 things if you don't already have them, a manual (Haynes or similar) and a timing light. Check your timing first before you tear anything apart. 1k RPM is high at operating temp, may have a vacuum leak. Do you know if the idle set screw was messed with at all? It shouldn't have been, and despite what other threads say on here, you shouldn't ever have to adjust it, the ECM controls that. If your idle is wrong, something is wrong. You don't have a check engine light on do you?

Re: need help

To my knowledge no check engine light, but I think I do have a vacuum leak but I can't find a good enough diagram to figure it out. I also founda sensor on the passenger side behind the head bout, six inches away from the ddistributor that is broke off and I do not know what it is

Re: need help

Take carb cleaner and start spraying it around the vacuum lines and the intake manifold, if your idle changes, you found your leak. Take a pic and post it, but if you are talking about a sensor on the driver side of the back of the block, that would be the oil pressure sender. I'm guessing your oil pressure gauge doesn't work then?

Re: need help

I will try the carb cleaner and yes thats the sensor idk if the oil pressure gauge worked I only had it 3 weeks before the head gasket blew and timing gear chipped
