yes u can remove it..there shold be a tech article on here about that...but it is something about splicing the wire that goes from the ECM to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). U then attach this wire to an on, off switch...the problem with this is that it will kill the speedo, but because the computer no longer knows how fast the car is going it can't regulate the speed, also...there's something about the computer doesn't know at which points to shift the car...because of this u shouldnt turn it on until the ur in 3rd gear atleast, because i've heard that 4th gear (overdrive) isn't a deep enough gear to get an accurate top speed in other words, the car will constantly want to downshift.

couldnt you just borrow one of thoes hypertech power programmer things? they are suposed to let you change allot of factory settings like raising the speed limiter to match the speed rating of the tires, it also optimises when the automatic transmission shifts, how firm it shifts and much more...

Is there any place where i could buy the programmer thing that you talked about. I would want to change it only when i race but i would want it normal most of the time. Money is not an issue. Thanks

form what i understand a fastchip will overide the speedlimiter. they are pretty much the best chips made for our (and gm) vehicles. i want one, but haven't splurged for it yet.

www.fastschip.com

**EDIT** well, i swore i read something on their website about it about a year ago, although can't seem to find any info about it know. give them a call, i swore it removed the limiter....and let me know what you find out

The best I've done was 119 mph. When I gave it more gas it down shifted into 3rd and started to speed up more, but then I had to get on the brakes a second later because of traffic coming up. I've never touched my speed limiter and have no mods, but I suppose it helps to be on a long gentle downhill stretch on the autobahn. heh heh I might look into one of those power programmers though.

89 firebird
2.8 auto
mods- rims+white outline lettered tires

PS- At the moment though since cold wet snowy weather seems to make my car run like butt, it barely starts let alone have enough power to move under it's own power. Still trying to figure this one out.

coolrimsatleast,

What weight oil do you use? Due to oil leaks I haven't gotten around to fixing , and 110* heat I use 15w30 in the summer and 10w40 in the winter. For some reason if I use the 15w30 in the winter My car is harder to start and runs like crap. So if you use a higher weight oil try droping down a little.

Yes try a thinner oil.

And just another quick thought... My car is rough to start in the winter, but once it gets going it runs alright. I thought the reason why my car started so hard is that the "seventh" injector does not work any longer.

Because the "seventh" injector was designed to help in cold starts and I dont believe mine works anymore it takes longer to start, and once started it has to be revved up to 2000 RPM for a couple of minutes to warm up so it will idle.

There's no "power programmer" available for our 3rd gen cars; those are for the OBD-II 4th gen f-bodies, with the soldered PROMs.

What year is your car, 1stgenracer?

I'v just recently started using 15-30 synthetic. The weird thing is though, when I start it cold it runs fine. After driving for 15 or 20 minutes and it warms up, it'll start running bad. Just recently though it got bad enough that it will stall when I come to a stop, and I can barely start it. If I give it gas it'll die, and if I put it in drive it'll just stall again. Don't ask how I get it moving again because I don't even know. If I let it sit for 30 to 40 mins. It will start up again and run just good enough to get me home. Last time I drove it I was shifting it like a manual so the rpm's wouldn't drop too much. It's always had this problem after sitting for a day in the rain, even when it isn't cold. Only recently though has it become undriveable. Got a new fuel filter, distributer cap, and rotor to put on, and a new MSD blaster coil with a 6A ignition coming in the mail. Probably pick up an 02 sensor and other little things in a few days. I remember a month or two ago it was barely running and when I came out of BK 20 minutes later it fired up and ran like new. Strange stuff.

I run hypertech and if you ask they will remove the speed limiter. Brian K has fastchip and it works the best. Do all your mods first then worry about wasting your money on the chip.
