What is the bolt size for 2.8 exhaust manifold? And how many needed to do both sides?

I'm pretty sure I'm missing exhaust manifold bolts, and I'd like to put new ones in... I'm probably going to go out soon to get them... how many do I need, what size (length, width, thread) and how many does each side take? Any hidden ones? How hard is this to do? How can I take them off without snapping the heads off the bolts? Without snapping it flush with the heads?
Someone told me it was probably not the manifold bolts, rather the doughnut gasket leaking... how can I check this? I looked tight, and it looked like a flange, rather than an abutment type joint...
Someone help me, this exhaust leak is too much, it needs to be eradicated! it needs to become an unleak...

it would be really nice if I knew this right about now... two are broken off on the #2 cylinder and 1 is missing (or snapped at the head!!!) on the #5 cylinder.
I -need- this fixed, and I don't want to have a shop do it... I need to know the bolt sizes, I've been shooting them with WD-40 and i think they'll budge now, but I don't know... please help!!!
PS, now would be a good time for those headers too...

Oh schitt.........
So I sprayed the bolts with WD-40... took the car for a trip around the block in 1st... crusin around 15-20MPH.... stop the car in front of my house, smoke... lots of it.
Nothing looks burnt, but it was coming off the bolts... is this good or bad? the manifolds were -real- hot for only having been run a few minutes... (nice burnt flesh on the finger)
Next time I guess I should just run the car at idle for a few minues huh...

hey....no matter what, your exhaust manifolds are gonna get real hot REAL fast. thats normal...i found that out when i was fijiting with my spark plug wires. as for the size, i will have to check my chiltons manual this weekend. i have actually been on the hunt for it for a while and have no idea where it went, but i will find it. but it seems like a common problem for who knows what reason....when i got my car i was missing about three all together (its a 3.1). anyway....needless to say they started leaking, fortunately i bought it from a used dealership and they had to fix it. basically three or four bolts were missing their heads, and unfortunately for them it was on the same side as the AC stuff. to make a long story a whole heck of a lot shorter, the guy had to go in there BLIND with a right angle drill instead of takind out he AC etc, etc...so it is def a b*tch of a project depeding on which bolts they are and where they were located. but he managed to do it right and replace all the bolts, but i can still hear a faint ticking, but i would rather let it be instead of making it worse. maybe some day when headers are available or something, i will worry about it then.
from memory along, i would say there are six per side, there are once in the middle on the bottom i believe. again thats just from memory. if you are gonna tackle it yourself, just take your time and be careful, its up to you....just some input.

i had the same problem, missing bolts and leaks, there were no gaskets on the manifold to the head, i did get a set and changed all the bolts, they were 8mm X 1.25 thread, i matched up the lenth at the hardware store with the old ones, still missing one, it's snaped off in the head, the flange bolts for the y pipe i had to drill and tap and used threaded rod, got new donuts, it was a all day job and not fun! but the leaks are gone, now i can here every other stange noise my engine makes.
what i did with the missing ones, i stuck a pencil into the bolt hole and mesured how long it was, i bought extra flat washers in case it was to long and bottomed out. what i remember was their are three sizes, six per side, the top middle was the longest, the one under that one was a little shorter and the end ones were the same size, about 45 mm long? you should be able to at least salvage a couple of them to match up. hope this helps

Thanks chris, you're a lifesaver!
Now if I can get my sh*t together I'll actually get to returning my vacuum gage and getting these things fixed. I went to shop today but the guy was leaving cause of some emergency.
Thanks again! Three boards and countless people, and you're the only one who knew.

Searching the boards can help sometimes, too...

I did search, and came up with nothing. Thanks though for the info Tom
I'm going to do some serious shooting with WD-40 ever chance I can until warm weather comes around... Hopefully those bolts won't b*tch when I tell them to come out.
